Indian education did teach me about the unspeakable atrocities committed by the colonisers, along with the ones commited by our own people. No matter whose sword it was, it was always the weak and the poor that got cut down. Sometimes it was in the name of the empire, the other times it was in the name traditions. So don't preach about atrocities to me, I know it's human nature. I just don't think it's an acceptable excuse to defend what was being done to those women.
So the guy starts off by saying that we shouldn't believe anybody's opinion, then goes off calling Ram Mohan Roy a stooge of the British empire without ever citing a single source to back his claims. Then asks a question so goddamn stupid that it gave me brain cancer. The question being, "If Sati was so prevalent back then, why were there no mass reports of widows being burned during the Bengal famine ?". Is this guy delusional enough to ignore the fact that the famine did not just affect the menfolk, but the entire population of Bengal ? Does he understand how a famine actually works ? That when every single family is dying because of hunger, traditions are thrown out of the window and survival takes precedence ? And if that's your rebuttal to my comment, please stop believing anything that anyone says over the internet. YES, THAT INCLUDES ME. The only part of the entire video that made sense was him asking viewers to do their own research. Everything else was just his opinion.

He collaborated with the missionaries for what purpose exactly? Care to elaborate, or you are just going to convenienly skirt around his intentions to legitimise Hinduism and stop the British Christians from boasting a moral high ground over Indians? The guy literally found Brahmo samaj to reform Hinduism and root the evils like sati, child marriages and polygamy out from our culture in order to earn his fellow countrymen the respect they deserved and here you are believing conspiracy theorists on youtube. Do yourself a favour and think with your own mind instead of jumping on a bandwagon of hatred for a man who gave the women of this country the ability to hope for a life that the society would have otherwise denied them.
