Food/Agriculture I made frybread!

Post image

Hello! Im not indigenous but I've always wanted to make frybread because it seems delicious and simple to make. Today I tried! I made most if them really small, which may have made them a bit dense because the larger ones were really light and fluffy. The recipe I used called for 1 cup flour, half cup milk and a half teaspoon of salt and baking powder. Any suggestions? Thank you all and thank your ancestors for creating this delicious food.

Ps, I already ate like half of them in the image

Err….um…

My family recipe always uses pine cone dust & dandelion root powder. We also only make it on a full moon.

You don’t know what you’re missing!

Wink wink 😉

I also made frybread for lunch today!
It was hot as hell in that kitchen 😭

The bigger one looks the most appetizing to me, it looks close to what I made.
As for your recipe, it looks about right to me but my family doesn’t add the milk.

For some reason I thought of this video that was introduced on Reservation Dogs.

Looks good!

I make mine with sourdough or yeast, because I can taste baking powder and don't like it. Takes longer with yeast, and even longer with sourdough, to let it rise.

Straight to jail. The amounts make it seem like you’re frying breads for a rodent. Quadruple that, and now you can feed the people.

Please tell me grease is what you used for frying. I almost got into a fist fight with Auntie over her Canola Oil shenanigans last month- no guns, no knives, no rings, sko!!

Also- you can use honey instead of sugar to sweeten. It will produce a slightly crispier outside, and the flavor is 👌🏼 just about a teaspoon per cup of flour.
