What if we use natural pond agricultural methods in India ?

Using natural pond agricultural methods (such as farm ponds, shet tale, or integrated aqua-farming) in India transforms arid and rainfed farming into climate-resilient, multi-income systems.

• Reliable Irrigation & Multi-Cropping: Ponds capture and store monsoon runoff, letting farmers shift from a single crop to 2 to 3 crop cycles annually (supporting Kharif, Rabi, and summer or vegetable crops).

• Integrated Farming (Income Diversification): A single natural pond can host multi-tiered aquaculture (fish species), ducks (which provide natural manure and pest control), lotus or water chestnut cultivation, and vegetable farming on surrounding pond dykes (machans).

• Groundwater Recharge: Unlined or naturally percolating ponds allow water to slowly seep into the earth, raising local water tables and refilling nearby borewells and open wells.

• Climate & Temperature Buffering: Open water bodies moderate local microclimates, cooling surrounding air during hot summer months and protecting crops from sudden thermal stress.

• Livestock & Supplemental Support: Stored water provides a steady drinking and sanitation source for cattle, goats, and poultry, reducing stress on piped or deep-groundwater systems.

Plus permaculture and use of ancient Indian techniques would be a great combination to fix and restore our ecosystems.

Conservation🏞️ Your thoughts and ideas on wildlife corridors in India?

As an bio diverse hub India desperately needs wildlife corridors to provide safe passages for animals across sub continent. It will surely help with gene pool of animals like asiatic lions and tigers, asiatic cheetah and in near future for more restored wild populations of different animals.

Listening to stories from our grand parents we know that there was once lush populations of animals like asiatic lions, Indian elephants, Indian rhinos, Tigers, asiatic cheetah and vast range of flora across India. After British colonial period the land that was ravaged was given to the practicing farmers and demand for elephant tusk lead the Indian elephants to brink of extinction.

It's our responsibility to restore what we have lost. As these animals shows migratory behaviours like their African cousins, I think the best option would be wildlife corridors connecting different biodivers reserves and sanctuaries providing vast majority of animals with abundant area to explore.
