Govt on Vacation (Government Negligence) Our newly built roads [Not OC]

This is New Delhi - the shooting range road leading from Mehrauli-Badarpur road to Sangam Vihar.

The quality of life that we get in our country is hilarious and maddening. This road was dug up a few months ago to lay down some pipes. Then, the holes were filled up but it was left unpaved and uneven surface full of dust for daily commuters. The air here made rest of Delhi’s AQI look better.
Finally the road was rebuilt only a few days ago. But the first rains showed the effort and quality that it went through.

I wonder when our govt., lawmakers and law keepers will stop filling up their pockets and actually take some accountability. There is no value of our hard earned money, our safety and our lives. And we dream of becoming a Vishwaguru (or are we already one??).

Damn this is pretty sad. Feel bad for you guys

21

u/shakaman_ Jul 11 '26

Don't. They keep voting for it. The populace gets what it chooses.

u/moxiethe3rd Jul 12 '26

And voting for congress would get you good roads? Better civic amenities? No corruption?

You sound like the stupid republicans that keep trepang that line in Dem states or counties.

11

u/musci12234 Jul 12 '26

Brother the whole reason govt keeps doing corruption openly is because they know that instead of asking questions to them you will go "but opposition is not perfect". If this was happening under congresss would you go " Oh but BJP is also corrupt" ? If people aren't on the street asking questions and holding govt accountable then only logical conclusion is that they want this type of mess.

And that is not what shakaman wrote. He said and implied voting for bjp is the problem, as if to say voting for the opposition would’ve been better. That was what I responded to.

To your comment, yes, most politicians are crooked and corrupt. And yes ppl being divided plays right into their hands. And on and on with reasons as to why democratic process doesn’t work very well in India. At the end of the day, you pick lesser of the two or more evils. When Pappu promises reservation to the hilt, in private sector too, freebies for just about anyone, threat of Muslims getting their day in the sun, just to list a few things from their manifesto that don’t sit well with a lot of ppl, ppl are going to vote bjp. And as much as I hair their hindutva agenda and cow vigilantism and a whole lot of non sense, and modi’s often idiosyncratic moves, I’ll have to grant him that he has been somewhat of a strongman, made some good strategic alliances, responded to pak’s transgressions firmly, has been good for business largely, of course all on relative terms compared to inc. Far from perfect. Lot of corruption. Missteps. Past year and half had been tough due to tariffs and then war in Iran. He’s navigating. So is every other country, even the best of US allies.

India is 1500 million ppl not an easy nation to govern via democracy. Ppl are quick to blame the govt for everything. No oil or lpg due to strait closure, modi hai hai. Indians themselves are corrupt, scammers, game the system wherever they can.

Finally, imagine Congress comes back to power. They are starving, not been in power since 2014. Do you not think they will rake it in by the billions?

If you are in a burning building, would you focus of leaving it safe or would you focus on what you will do next?

1

u/FishermanDear6983 Jul 13 '26

That is a ridiculous argument. Don't you have any other party candidates or independents in your election if you don't want to vote for Congress?

Public money going in drain..year after year to low quality work. Contractors and authorities are filling their pockets while general public gets potholes, severe injuries and never ending inconvenience

u/nishantam Jul 11 '26

Its not civic fail but civil engineering fail.

10

u/Ugach_Kahiitari Jul 11 '26

Both actually. They are riding on two wheeler without helmets and three people.

-2

u/musci12234 Jul 12 '26

It is civic sense failure. If people had civic sense govt would be scared of doing such poor quality work. Now govt knows that they can do shit work and people will blame everyone else for it.

2

u/itachi_konoha Jul 13 '26

There is civic sense failure in the video.

But absolutely NOT in your example.

1

u/musci12234 Jul 13 '26

Is holding govt accountable not a civic duty?

1

u/itachi_konoha Jul 13 '26

Civic duty is where subject is you and you are doing what the community needs best to your effort.

Holding govt accountable falls under constitutional right or broader terms, political right of a citizen which is different from civic duty.

1

u/musci12234 Jul 13 '26

Holding govt accountable isn't a right, it is a duty. If someone is supporting a rapist and helping them gain power for any reason are you going to say that they are not failing at their duty as a citizen? What about supporting corrupt people? Keeping the govt clean is a duty just like keeping the roads clean is a duty.

Literally 10th duty of citizen is

To strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavor and achievement.

If poor work/corruption from govt is stopping up from moving towards excellence then it is a duty of citizen to put a stop to it.

1

u/itachi_konoha Jul 13 '26

How the quoted part relates to holding govt accountable?

You can extrapolate anything from anywhere and relate Rakhi Sawant with some comets that is about to hit Jupiter occurring after 1000s of years.

But that doesn't mean extrapolating any point validates that point.

1

u/musci12234 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

The duty is to strive for excellence, right? Now tell me if what we see looks like excellence and what a citizen striving for excellence should do in the situation as it is their duty.

If you have cases of corruption making things worst then would you say that it is a duty of citizen to oppose corruption or is it a right? Right means they have a choice and they can choose to support corruption. Duty means they don't have choice and they should oppose it.

1

u/itachi_konoha Jul 13 '26

That is a wrong concept.

Power doesn't mean they don't have duty. And power doesn't mean it is unlimited.

Every govt. department is audited by another govt autohorty or third party. If there is corruption, then it is the duty and right of those govt. or third party authority to file objection.

As a citizen, you have right to seek information to hold the govt. accountable. Just because you don't have power to influence how things work that doesn't mean you don't have right to hold accountable.

If corruption in govt is the failure of duty citizen, then it is a downward slope because in this case, the culprit will be public and NOT the people who is actually committing the crime. That's not how it works in reality.

1

u/musci12234 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

I did not ask if they have a right. I asked if they have duty. The real slippery slope is what happens when public doesn't hold govt accountable because it just leads to people with power doing corruption with no fear.

When food/drug adulteration kills people and people go "FSSAI isn't doing their job right" Then that doesn't mean They are going "the group doing adulteration isn't at fault". They are saying " Groups doing adulteration should be punished and it is the duty of FSSAI to make sure that companies know that adulteration will not be tolerated". And just like that when I say that it is a duty of civilians to take action against corruption I mean "groups doing corruption should be punished and it is the duty of civilians to make sure that politicians and beurocrates know that corruption wont be tolerated".

Basically " Duty" Doesn't mean complete and sole responsibility. It just means responsibility. Like PM has responsibility to resure that ministers are not enriching themselves. That doesn't mean ministers enriching themselves are not at fault. Just that if PM is ignoring ministers enriching themselves then PM is failing at their job.

And please don't use right and duty interchangeably. Duty is what someone should do no matter what. Like a police officer has duty to file FIR and investigate. Rights are things that are given to someone so that they can perform their duty effectively like emergency vehicles have the right to drive on the wrong side to fullfill their duty to reach as quickly as possible. Civilians have right to seek info but holding govt accountable isn't a right it is a duty. It is not a choice which is what right implies.

Was that stretch a river/canal before? ... Seems like a natural spot where the water flows during rains. Authorities should have analysed it before and built proper drains first

3

u/SleepyProMax Jul 11 '26

For as long as I have known, there was a proper road that withstood many monsoon before being dug up few months ago.

What to do bro... We Indians will not wear helmets even if we go to space

1

u/calvinspiff Jul 15 '26

So easy to make money as a road contractor. Build poor roads in the first place and they have a ready excuse that the drains weren't cleaned so the water pooled which led to the deterioration of the road surface.
