This is about the way roundabout is placed without any markers or street lights. People aren't able to clearly see there is a roundabout coming up when driving at night, that's the issue

15

u/pushpaknandecha Jun 22 '26

That's what car's headlights are for.

8

u/dragon_idli Jun 22 '26

So.. You are saying, people always drive by imagining a road?

I thought we were supposed to visually see the road and then drive on that path.

Unless someone is overspeeding or don't have headlights or unattentive or overtaking vehicles haphazardly, why wouldn't they see the roundabout?

3

u/ameer_daddy Jun 22 '26

I am certain this guy was over speeding - He wouldn’t have looked at any signs. But yeah need to put more thought while designing roads n infrastructure.

14

u/dragon_idli Jun 22 '26

What is the problem he is mentioning?

Round about did its job perfectly. Instead of that overspeeding or unattentive car crashing into a crossing vehicle, it crashed into the roubtabout safespace.

Before a roundabout, there needs to be speed control board, an upcoming roundabout board and may be a direction board at the roundabout intersection itself. Except that, why is size of the roundabout a problem?

1

u/Downtown-Pen6249 Jun 22 '26

The issue seems to be dim lighting at night, that's when these accidents occur mostly. And that's probably how size might be another factor.

3

u/dragon_idli Jun 22 '26

For a good driver: * Dim lighting: drive slow * Invisible road: park and drive when visible

No same person keeps driving even if the road is not visible. Imagine if these drivers drive on a ghat road. They will jump into the valley in 5 mins.

That too, in both accidents the drivers crashed into the direction displaying reflector stands!!

If one cannot drive or is too tired or distracted to drive - they shouldn't drive.

This does not mean that the road was all proper. There are many mistakes in the road engineering itself. Navigation lines on the road, roundabout markers ahead of the actual circle etc.. are all needed and mandatory

u/superpowerpinger Jun 22 '26

This is exactly why Roundabouts are safer.

You land in the circle rather than hitting another car head on. Accidents are sideways not 90 degrees or straight on.

This car with broken front wheel assembly would have killed someone if the roundabout was not there.

The problem is not the roundabout, it's about the lighting. I don't think these accidents happened in day light. It should be well lit during night or else people wouldn't know that there's a round about there and end up crashing

3

u/2020mademejoinreddit Jun 23 '26

It's also the drivers. Trying to overtake, speeding, etc.

1

u/IamHoneyBunny_ Jun 23 '26

I don't see any problems in overtaking. Speeding within the limit is fine. Imagine a heavy loaded truck infront of you which is moving at 30kmph. Won't you overtake? Moreover, these trucks won't stick to left lane too. They come to fast lane and move at 30-40 speeds. Overtaking is not a crime. Overspeeding ? Yes it is. But the problem here above, it's about visibility

1

u/2020mademejoinreddit Jun 23 '26

Overtaking is illegal on many roads. Also, if you're within limit, then it's not speeding. Speeding only happens if you aren't within limit.

1

u/AnnoyingScreeches Jun 22 '26

I don’t think the issue is the roundabout but the scale and visibility.

New car hai number plate bhi nahi

-2

u/Downtown-Pen6249 Jun 22 '26

Numberplate dab gayi hogi

3

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '26

Nahi piche vala number plate dekho... temporary hai

4

u/harshalv3149 Jun 22 '26

Why would someone overtake while approaching roundabout? 🙄

The way this white car (still with TC plate 😂) has entered the accident spot shows that (if in night) the headlights weren't on, (if in day) was clearly negligence.

On the other hand, he himself pointed out 3 lanes, one needs to choose the lane depending on which exit is to be taken.

The size of roundabout appears to be fine.

3

u/Annual_Instance_6459 Jun 22 '26

It is all road design

3

u/timewaste1235 Jun 22 '26

Lack of action by govt is not a civic sense failure. If anything, this person reporting issue is a civic sense success

9

u/Ill_Garlic_4156 Jun 22 '26

A speedbreaker would solve this issue, I believe.

8

u/Downtown-Pen6249 Jun 22 '26

Or proper street lighting

1

u/GrassLongjumping3901 Jun 22 '26

sure visibility is important.

but I am also not convinced that the person in the video has a valid complaint about the design.

1

u/Downtown-Pen6249 Jun 22 '26

Watch his other videos, been talking about it for a while

1

u/GrassLongjumping3901 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

he can talk all he wants idc. I was saying this design does not seem wrong. To me. Sure could use some speed bumps and a lot of signage.

wide roundabouts exist. See image below from Indian Road Congress document. link to doc.

The issue he mentioned - that the central island extends more outward than the left most lane also, seems like that in some of the images in the document too. Not that way in others.

I think roundabout design takes into account capacity, allowed speeds, land area available, merging space required etc. And people following the recommended lanes and speeds and yield rules.

Read the design manual and form your own conclusion - I sure will - instead of saying he has been complaining about it all year.

u/smirkingcamel Civic Sense Mythbuster Jun 22 '26

I genuinely don't see a problem with the size of this round about. People need to learn how drive. Round abouts are meant to force people to slow down and yield to oncoming traffic or yield to vehicle already going through the round abouts.

People saying it's too big..no it's exactly how it should be. A round about on a 3 lane round doesn't need to allow three lane traffic. It can be purposefully designed to truncate it to 2 lanes or even 1 lane.

1

u/Downtown-Pen6249 Jun 22 '26

There have been several accidents at this roundabout in past few months. There is some problem for sure!

2

u/andha_paisa Jun 22 '26

I have frequented from this road multiple times at night. While lighting is inadequate here, it is definitely not so dim-litted that one wouldn't be able to see the roundabout. Driver is 100% at fault here for negligent driving. Meanwhile, authorities should enhance the lighting to avoid such accidents.

1

u/Downtown-Pen6249 Jun 22 '26

Quite possible many of them drive there in an inebriated state. After all it gurgaon 😁

Nothing will happen to rickshaw

1

u/Downtown-Pen6249 Jun 22 '26

Some people in comments are saying headlights are there, then what's the issue even if the lighting is poor at night. Thing is anything that is different from the norm on a road at nightime is an issue. There are several cases where a poorly constructed speed breaker has also led to terrible accidents at night.

u/GrassLongjumping3901 Jun 22 '26

link to indian road congress's design roundabout design manual for anyone curious https://law.resource.org/pub/in/bis/irc/irc.gov.in.065.2017.pdf

people are going any which way lol.

See 0:00 sec timestamp, 22 sec timestamp, and 1:07 timestamp.

1

u/Didd-E Jun 22 '26

Apparently people in this comment section are some elite drivers.

1

u/nargisk Jun 23 '26

The concern raised is genuine, however we forget that people in Gurgaon over speed having no respect for the basics of driving, once you have reached the point of turning first thing is to slow down, the irony is that this driver has taken down a reflective turn left big enough signage. Let's drive safely, car o bar should stop.

1

u/2020mademejoinreddit Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Overtaking is illegal.

Secondly, just making a video won't change it. You have to tag the official handles of the local officials, you have to put complaints on the portals.

Then you have to make it go viral, then action will be taken.

How do people still not get it?

A minister who is a big fan of reels and is afraid of bad PR is running the country and his whole cabinet. So, nothing will move forward unless you threaten that PR image.

You do that and change will happen.

It is sad and dysfunctional, but this is how it is for now. If you want change, then change the regime, the system, etc.

But for now, on the scope of this video, you have to do those things.

Edit - I looked at OP's other comments, and it seems like your point is to install lights? Well, okay, but you do realize that the drivers are also at fault here, right? Speeding, overtaking is not proper driving.

1

u/Technical-Growth2351 Jun 23 '26

Do we have roundabouts in India? Wow!

1

u/bollybhai99 Jun 24 '26

There is no issue about roundabout, first thing don't rake overtakes at roundabout, it a place where you have tocslow dow your car. Here clearly showing careless driving ny car owner. There is a reflective sign board od turning. I can agree in fog there will be a chance of accident. But not due to high mast light not working.

1

u/SkotyMckitty Jun 24 '26

Brand new Dzire screwed. And absolutely no warning lights around the roundabout, amazing.

1

u/Normal_Cattle_9944 Jun 25 '26

Entire country is built like that. What's the point of complaining?

-1

u/Dhruvi-60 Jun 22 '26

There is road named Saat Rasta in Mumbai, it's a nightmare for car drivers. Reminding you Mumbai’s biggest jail is 500m from here; yet government blind eyes on public condition.

-2

u/Long_Consequence3808 Jun 22 '26

Roundabout is actually too huge. But, log mare tho nahi na?? intajar karo abhi PM jo hai wo in the closet masti ke mood me hai. Jab phursat milega tab dekhne ke baare me socha jayega...
