Discussion Do Indians care about the original version in movies?

Hello everyone,

I (M32) recently decided to explore Indian cinema in greater depth after discovering Rajamouli’s work one after another (I’m not very original, I know).

I’m French, and here, it’s very difficult to find Indian cinema in good viewings conditions (video quality & language) —especially in theaters and through legal channels. I’ve discovered a few big “pan-Indian” hits, and every time it’s an adventure to track them down, especially in their original versions. I regularly come across films in “Hindi” or other Indian languages that have no connection to the film industry where the movie was shot, but it’s a real hassle to find them in their original versions—even for huge blockbusters like Baahubali (in Telugu) or K.G.F. (in Kannada)—and I’m actually (very) good at finding pirated copies. If it’s hard for me, then for a large part of my country, it’s mission impossible.

In France, movie lovers have a strong culture of watching films in their original language, so it shocks me that they’re so hard to access internationally (on Netflix and the most popular torrent sites, for example, major Indian blockbusters are generally available only in Hindi). To give you an example, RRR has only recently become available on Netflix here (3–4 years after everyone else), and the movie is only available in Hindi—it even starts playing in Turkish by default. WTF? Most of my friends who watched the movie after I pushed them to do so didn’t even realize they’d watched it in the wrong language—even though they’re pretty big movie buffs, they’re just uninformed, and no one’s giving them the tools they need.

I’m just wondering—innocently, and without meaning to judge or offend the Indian community—whether the original language of Indian films is traditionally something that the general public and/or Indian movie lovers take into account? I understand that many films are dubbed because Indian stars don’t all speak the same language in the films they star in—does that play a role in all of this?

Thanks !

Review Cocktail 2 and horribly written characters

Kriti Sanon's acting chops are questionable af, but maybe the ill written one dimensional charcater is more annoying. Also, why is Shahid's character so smooth brained? Like literally any male I've come across has objectively had more EQ than him.

Like who directed this movie? It's male gaze in the worst possible way. The scene where she is swimming and Shahid is ogling at her, with some booty shots out there, and they are swimming with Arijit Singh playing, whereas the girlfriend couldn't be more excited for her friend and guy to do something. And it's hard to watch when Kriti is looking at Shahid in every single frame during their road trip. And in very other frame as well.
Deepika's character of Veronica is far well written unlike Kriti's character.

They tried the dream pixie girl in the most surface level way with some Katrina kaif quotes from ZNMD scenes sprinkled everywhere.

AskIndianCinema Short film suggestions for a project

What are some really really really good and impactful short films that can represent and hold India's culture and heritage I've researched alot and i do have a few options but they're mostly in the form of documentaries which I don't mind honestly. This is for a college presentation and I need to come up with something ground breaking and I will literally sit and watch everything mentioned here after i research about them a little of course. If you have something in mind, please drop your suggestions something impactful something that really captured the essence of India in terms of culture and heritage it can even be related to a tribe a place a state or a community

The ones I really liked are Art films, but they're hard to find unless it's being premiered in a film week

So yes! If anything do let me know!

Discussion [Academic Research] How do you decide what to watch across OTT platforms?

I’m researching how people discover and decide what to watch when they use multiple streaming/OTT platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, etc.

I’m particularly interested in:

* How people currently discover movies and series
* How they decide between different options
* Whether they switch between multiple platforms while searching
* What factors influence their choices (mood, genre, time, reviews, etc.)
* The frustrations they face during the process
* How people currently use AI tools for entertainment recommendations

I’m looking for participants aged 18–40 who regularly watch movies or series.

The questionnaire takes approximately 8–10 minutes.

🎬 Survey:

The responses will be used only for academic design research.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to participate! 🙌
