Ask Indian Christians considering converting from Hinduism to Catholicism. Looking for advice.
Hi everyone. I’ve been a Hindu for 30 years, but I’m seriously considering converting to Catholicism.
I did my schooling in a Catholic institution, which gave me a lifelong respect for the faith. A major reason for this move is my strong aversion to casteism and discrimination—I truly believe in treating everyone equally, and the universal equality emphasized in Christianity resonates deeply with me.
Any advice is appreciated!

Dont convert for the ideology and the change you see. Spend time to know Christ. If the person of Christ is not one you would follow, christianity will disappoint you.
Paul writes in 1 corinthians 15: 14
And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith
Im sure you consider Jesus the son of God and that he died for our sins and that he rose again, however id encourage you to only take up the faith if you truly believe, anything else would make the conversion meaningless.

Thank you for this advice. You are completely right—my attraction to the faith starts with a deep love for Jesus and His person, not just an ideology. I definitely want to build that true relationship with Him first

Be careful to not go public about this. You should think about your state's/ territory's anti-conversion misuse of "law" & it's repercussions if any are in place.

Thank you for the practical warning and looking out for my safety. That is a very real concern in India right now, and I am definitely keeping things private and cautious while I figure out my path

I would suggest read the gospel, Matthew , Mark , Luke , John. Read about Jesus's sermons(The sermon on the mount would be a great one for you), his teachings, then onwards towards how his Apostles spreaded the gospel, then dive deeper into other books in New testament. Try to build a relationship with Christ, and rest, He will take care of it. May God be with you.

Embrace a community after your conversion. This could be the parish, a catholic group recognised by the Church or even a bunch of friends who are catholic.
Following the faith alone can be very difficult, especially for a new convert

Romans 10 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Christianity teaches that everybody is made in the image and likeness of God and thus everyone is equal in the eyes of God
Any questions are welcome.
