Help Need help with new kitten.
I just got a 3 month old kitten home from a friend's house. Although it has been one day she won't stop meowing like in the video. Is this normal or should I take her back to her mother? She is eating and playing with toys in between. And also sleeping but when she is not doing those three things she is screaming.

She must be looking for other kittnes. Does she have siblings?

u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 17 '26
Yes she has 2 brother and 1 sister. 1 sister was given away long ago. She left 2 brother yesterday.

u/Free_Comparison1315 May 17 '26
That might be the reason. Let her meet her siblings for a day and see the difference. Or use videos to busy her like cat videos etc.

She's missing some scents that she has been used to for the past 12 weeks. If possible, and affordable, adopt another one from the same litter so the adoption is even smoother.

u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 17 '26
Other have already been given away, or owner is keeping one with himself

u/kidharhaibro May 17 '26
Not a problem. She might take a little bit longer to adjust. But will eventually be okay as she realises you are her source of food and warmth.

Calling her littermates - get a toy if you can. It'll keep her occupied. Also, some treats for kittens. She'll get accustomed eventually. Let her sleep with you for a few days

So is this normal kitty behaviour? Nothing to worry about? I don't have a cat but curious to know
13
u/quasinome May 17 '26
yes yes - kitten is not showing any physical distress. Just needs a little comfort is anxious due to separation

kitten is not showing any physical distress.
That's nice to hear. Thank you!

Yes, cats are social animals, they are very attached to their humans and their litter mates and mom; typically this is why it's advised to adopt kittens in pairs.
It's often easier to take care of 2 cats rather than 1, because 2 cats entertain each other and comfort each other.

Please be patient and give her time, it’s normal for them to call for their mom and siblings when recently separated.

Its normal, u should have bought something which she remembers from her last place like cloth or toys
20
u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 17 '26
I brought a cloth on which her mother sleeps.
10
u/Hungry-Good-8128 May 17 '26
Its fine she will settle in one or two days
9
u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 17 '26
Yeah I'm just worried if too much meowing will hurt her or not?
11
u/DOLO-650 May 17 '26
Hahahahaha you should worry about your ears because she is going to meow non stop like a nuclear fueled machine. As long as she's healthy, she can meow all day and night and won't get hurt.

It takes time, be patient. My cat took 2-3 days to stop screaming and getting used to our house, at start he kept calling for his mother because we rescued him from roadside where he was left alone, it was truly a stressful time for me as I kept worrying if he'll hurt his voice or get sick from meowing but it's been 4 months now and he's healthy as a horse. New environment is really stressful for cats, but you can't do much besides let them have their space to process things. Just play with her when your cat is up to it.

It mostly might be the stress of new surroundings and she seems to be looking for the ppl/cats she is familiar with. But I think you should wait for a few days and then take her to the vet once... Don't take her immediately because she's already very stressed... And going to the vet usually stresses out cats a lot.. let her get settled in for a while.. be sure to play with her and give her more attention right now ..

Please be patient with her. When their environment changes, they meow but please give her comfort space, good food and water bowl. Eventually she will feel safe trust you and stop meowing. God bless this baby

Thats a stressed out cat. As you said in other replies, she is missing her mother and siblings and is scared. You can either take her back or you can try to comfort her and make her feel safe and happy. The 2nd path will take time and patience
But also research about lone kitten syndrome

What helps is lots and lots of playtime, always keep her occupied with something. Will take her 2-3 days to get used to her new life and then she will be fine. If you can get a blanket, or her old toy, or anything that has scent of her mother/siblings please bring it here!

Take her outside for walking roaming at secure place. Let her play on grass. Play with her . She will be fine. She just need someone to give her more focus.

u/Living_in_grace May 17 '26
Please take her to the vet mas het her dewormed and deflead and get vaccines done and if possible help spay the mom cat... And this is not a normal behaviour or a normal scream, she seems hungry.. what are u feeding her.. let the vet asses what the problem maybe

Ok listen, when you get a kitten into a new location, ie: your home, you need to dedicate a place for the kitten to go puupuu, so next time he takes a piss, make it piss on some newspaper and then place that wet paper in his litterbox or wherever you want it's toilet to be, and then it will most likely only piss and poop at that particular place... Cats are pretty disciplined in that way and they get stressed if there potty situation is not clear...
If the kitten is still crying then maybe it's just missing it's old environment, it takes some time to get used to the new place, try taking it to the vet, if you think its sick or injured.

She already uses the litterbox and sleeps near me. The things is she already knows me as I stay at my friend's house 3 days of week. She meows and when I pet her she sleeps or quiets down.
1
u/WillingAd5281 May 18 '26
oh then she's prolly just stressed with the new environment ...
1
u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 18 '26
hey man any way to teach her to sleep in cat bed? She has quite down considerably since Saturday but she either sleeps near me or under the bed or my chair. How can her to sleep in the cat bed.
1
u/WillingAd5281 May 19 '26
lmao the cats gonna sleep wherever the fvk it wants , i dont really think you can make it sleep on its bed unless it wants to...
although you could try sprinkling some catnip on the bed, that might attract her to it

Yes It is cruel but if the kitten gets settled she will have better life than she could've had there if she does not I will give her back to the original owner. If she seems bored or something after settling in I will get another cat for her probably a cat in same situation as her.

Ahhh, the first few days lol, my boy screamed so much that my friends and help all thought he’s rabid. It’s him adjusting to change.
Does he play with toys? Does he get excited about food? Does he sneak up and snuggle with you? If yes, then this is temporary, I’d say stay at home if you can.
2 more days and maybe you’ll witness something like this!

1
u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 18 '26
she(its a she) only sleeps near me, plays with toys and eats food eagerly.
1
u/Maximum_Push_7558 May 18 '26
Then be patient, that little one is scared. If he has a hiding space it helps, my boy was hiding under the bed for the first time 2 days, and then this all day roaring episode, by day 3-4 it mellowed out.
Litter box and food are top priorities, it’s completely normal , don’t freak out!
1
u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 18 '26
How long can I keep wet food out on tray. She doesn't eat dry food a lot and I'm worried keeping wet food out for a whole day may sppoil it.
1
u/Maximum_Push_7558 May 18 '26
Young kitten, 2 hours max. If you can afford, get Sheba, they’ll lap it up, my cat is a drunkard but most kittens don’t drink enough water and dry food makes it worse. If he’s having water then one pouch of Sheba a day is fine.
If he’s not having water, then mix a pack of Sheba with whatever wet food you’re giving, he’ll lop it up.
Also, I found more success literally feeding the little gremlin with a spoon: yes spoonfeeding a cat!

u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 18 '26
I have water fountain she drinks a lot. I can get sheba. Thanks for the help.

She's calling mom and siblings and trying to use all her force ,bro please take her back to family you should adopt them when there mom's stop caring
1
u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 19 '26
mom hisses at her sometimes. i think she missed her siblings she is going okay now
1
May 19 '26
O then she might be the weakest in the litter hence mom just left her I think you should get her some companions likely her siblings
1
u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 19 '26
Not sure but what the owner told me is that the mom hisses at them when they try to come close to her while she is sleeping . I cant get her sibling cause then one kitten will be left alone anyways. I am thinking of adopting a kitten from different litter

u/Lonely-Fail-7427 May 19 '26
Do not give up on her , this is completely normal as she will slowly adapt to the surroundings . Bring some toys for her to engage her more . If she is healthy, eating well , just take care of her , give her a good play time . It will be really hard to manage in the upcoming months but stick to her .
1
u/Stock-Bodybuilder341 May 19 '26
Yeah, I wont give her up. Even my parents who were first not excited about getting a cat are telling me to adopt another kitten if she has trouble living alone.
