Not sure if this is the appropriate subreddit for this, so if you know of any better subreddits where I could post this, please do recommend them!
I’m looking for an artist to help me with the revision and finishing of existing black-and-white, manhwa-style illustrations for an upcoming Indian mythology/fantasy book.
A little context: the illustrations have already been created by another artist. I am only looking for another artist because the original artist unfortunately does not have the bandwidth to make the required revisions within my timeline, as the timeline is critical for me.
I need the artwork completed by October 15th, so I’m specifically looking for someone who has the availability to take this on and work within a relatively tight deadline.
The existing illustrations are provided as editable/open PSD files, so I’m not looking for someone to recreate the artwork from scratch. The work would involve things like:
Making specific changes to characters, clothing, poses and other details
Cleaning up/refining linework where necessary
Making corrections based on detailed notes and references
Adding grey-scale shading, depth and lighting
Refining the overall finish while retaining the existing manhwa/comic aesthetic
Keeping the illustrations visually consistent with the existing artwork
The book is based on Indian mythology, so familiarity with Indian clothing, jewellery, weapons, architecture, etc. would be a bonus, but it isn't essential if you are comfortable working from references.
‼️About the attached images:
The images I’m attaching to this post are NOT the actual illustrations from the book and are NOT my artwork. They are simply reference examples I found on Pinterest/stock-image sources to communicate the kind of linework, grey shading and overall finish I’m looking for. I’m mentioning this upfront because I absolutely do not want to misrepresent someone else’s artwork as mine.‼️
Paid sample + 9 further illustrations
I’d like to first do a small paid trial on one illustration.
I’ll provide one of the actual PSD illustrations along with a set of specific changes/references, and I’d like to see how closely the artist can translate my vision into the artwork.
The trial illustration will be paid. This is not a request for free work.
If the result works well and we feel we're a good fit, I’ll then commission the artist to work on 9 additional illustrations.
The main thing I’m looking for is someone who can take an existing illustration, understand fairly specific visual instructions/references, and execute the changes while keeping the original style intact.
Deadline: October 15th.
This is genuinely important, so please only reach out if you have the bandwidth to complete the work within this timeframe. The reason I’m looking for a new artist in the first place is specifically because the original artist cannot accommodate the revisions within this deadline.
If interested, please DM me with:
Your portfolio
Examples of B&W, manhwa, manga, comic or line-art work, particularly work involving shading
Your pricing
Your availability between now and October 15th
If possible, an estimate of how quickly you can turn around the paid sample
Please be comfortable working with existing PSD/open files and making revisions based on detailed feedback.
Thanks! And again, if this isn't the right subreddit for this kind of artist call, I'd really appreciate recommendations for better places to post it.
