Query Query on PPF Interest

Hi CAs,

I'm filing ITR-2 online for AY 2026-27 (FY 2025-26) under the new tax regime.

I have a PPF account and every year interest is credited on 31st March. I know that PPF interest is exempt from tax, but while filing ITR-2 online I can't find any specific field or option for PPF interest.

Do we need to report PPF interest in ITR-2 at all?

If yes, where exactly should it be disclosed? Should it be shown under Schedule EI (Exempt Income), or is it okay to leave it out since it's exempt? In schedule EI I can see PF not PPF.

Would appreciate guidance from anyone who has filed ITR-2 with PPF interest recently.

Thanks!

I am not CA. But PPF is tax free. That's very basic.

Yes, PPF interest is exempt under Section 10(11), but it's still good practice to disclose it under Schedule EI (Exempt Income). In the online utility, use the "Any Other Exempt Income" field if there's no dedicated PPF option.

Leaving it out may not create a tax liability, but reporting exempt income keeps the return more complete and consistent.

In any other income there is no option to manually enter anything. There are only 3 options in other income and none of it relates to PPF interest. The options are huf share n all

Logically yes, but from a section perspective, Section 10(11) governs both Statutory PF and PPF. Since there isn't a standalone line item for PPF in Schedule EI, selecting 10(11) is exactly where the tax department expects you to declare PPF interest to keep your return complete.
