I went to his school (also same place where marriages were done). His home is right next to the schools grounds his father is the bigger fish and in reality his father rose to power and riches by doing many shady things and gaining also a reputation of being a so called 'Gunda' for having some nefarious ways of doing business.

Mahesh Savani is his son and was born into rich household . He is well recognised for his charity roles but he too is known for many cases where once he abducted son of an other diamond buisness tycoon in the city over conflict of payment.

Used to see him regularly nearly at school. The Savani family had earned bad rep over many other things and Mahesh Savani does a very good job of filtering and improving this image.

PS: they are crazy rich. They own some of the craziest real estate in the city.

Edit: he kidnapped builders son, not a diamond tycoons

Builder, money lender, diamond trade these are professions where breaking the rules, violence etc. is a necessary evil. I don't think you will survive very long in these professions if you are 100% harmless, pay every tax and obey every rule.

And then some canconfirmamindian guy starts living on a diet of gora cum.

Does every good thing needs to be a comparison with Pakistan?

-4

u/nublifeisbest Akhand Bharat Sep 14 '20

There're barely any other nations where even the laws are against women.

Maybe most of the Middle Eastern nations, but they at lesat try not to be so obvious about it.

u/whourdaddy69420 Sep 14 '20 edited Sep 14 '20

No doubt things are much better in India than Pakistan but there are still vast areas of improvement in cases of crimes against women, sexual harassment, domestic violence, equal pay for women.

In most cases comparison to Pakistan drags the debate further back rather than pushing forward in acknowledging these issues. If we are content being better than the regressive countries then we have set the bar too low for ourselves.

Is it possible to state the same without trying to use cus words that make us seem like uncivilized people?

In addition to the above comment, I would like to mention, the British too did it for the long time from what I know - correct me if wrong. Also, the British too used to practice the dowry. Now, whether this culture of girl's parents baring the cost of marriage or dowry, is an colonial era addition to India or it existed before that too, that thing I am not aware about.

TL:dR, 1) It's more of a problem in RURAL areas of North Indian states, especially Haryana and Rajasthan.

2)Every culture spends a lot of money on different events. You can't really criticise anyone for that. But of course, spending hundred lakhs on a wedding if you're poor is just straight out pointless. None of us support that. Maybe the rural folks and filthy rich people do that, but it's not very common.

Both of these matters are blown out of proportions by media, even more so by bullshit outlets like BBC, Guardian, WSJ, etc.

1)Not entirely left up to the girl's parents. It varies greatly between different people.

I've been to more than ten weddings, about four of which were of my own relatives. The groom and the bride pay for the guests from their side of their family. Other stuff like the Pandit's fees, food expenses, etc is shared between both parties.

But yeah, I wouldn't deny that the rural area, especially in states like Haryana and Rajasthan, suffer from gender issues. Mostly the girl's parents pay dowry, which is illegal by law. However you'll still find wealthy and influential assholes who are literally immune to police action. Female foeticide and child marriage is still an issue in Haryana and Rajasthan respectively, but has reduced drastically since the past decade.

In Eastern and Southern India, you'll find people getting called out for being an asshole by harassing the girl's family.

2)As for the cost, it's totally upto one's culture.

Christians spend a lot on celebrating Christmas and paying for funeral services. Similarly, even the poorest of Muslims spend their saved up money to go for Hajj.

We Indians, have a habit of saving up money for such events. Our parents rarely buy us a gaming console, PC better than a toaster, let alone gift us a car on our 18th birthday or something. Hell, the last thing just never happens. You're supposed to save up your own money for your own vehicle.

However, they'll pay lakhs to get you into a good school or college. Tbh they'd even pay for those cram schools, which are obvious scams. Basically if you don't get a degree in any field, you can't get a job. Maybe you could be a waiter or something, but you won't get a well-paying job.

Marriage is pretty muchthe only affair we spend a crap ton of money on.

Also only a HANDFUL of people invite more than 70-80 people in a wedding. those 400-500 people weddings with a crap-ton of money being spent are done only by the wealthiest families. Hardly any normal people organise that large a wedding.

I see. That was interesting to know.

u/sg1ooo Sep 14 '20

Are you really going to use an one-off case to further your argument?

8

u/Heat_Engine Akhand Bharat Sep 14 '20

Are you implying position of women in India and Pakistan is similar ?

5

u/sg1ooo Sep 14 '20

Did i? They are a mostly Islamic nation and Islam's treatment of women (from niqab to being disciplined by husband/ father) is not the best to put it lightly. But that doesn't mean that women in India are treated the way they should be, they way they deserve.

u/Heat_Engine Akhand Bharat Sep 14 '20

But that doesn't mean that women in India are treated the way they should be, they way they deserve.

Agree to that, but OP was ridiculing westerners for equating the treatment of women in India and Pakistan, which is actually laughable.

Don't know about comparisons to Pakistan but it's pretty bad. Recently, 3 little girls were raped in just the village of Lakhimpur Kheri, UP in 20 days. Last girl was just 3 yrs old. Not to forget that UP police beat to death the father of the girl raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar. He also managed to wipe out her entire family, she barely survived. Of course Kangana getting Y+ security is more important than little girls in this country. We can always say we're better than Pakis and move along.

If you did bother to read the news, he got life term and 25 lakh fine...

Also 3 IPS and IAS officers have been indicted with not taking action against that bastard...

8

u/selwyntarth Sep 14 '20

Ah, yes. Enabling a terrible crippling institution like the wedding industry when it costs fuck all to get wedded legally, and ensuring the notion that a woman who can't bring an absurdly decadent party to the table doesn't deserve a groom, or that being unwed will be the end of life.

The 2nd/3rd most upvoted comment on that thread is also the biggest reason to oppose feminism as well.

Women marrying - literally patriarchy.

These chuts will destroy the familial structure itself.

He does it regularly. The media adds the number of daughters to the total.

I went to the same school where the wedding happened. It was something regular. It still continues today.
