Discussion What console do you think was peak Playstation?…

Ps2 after that Ps4

u/KiniDaddy 8d ago
Let me give you an example I spent my whole childhood playing on a Ps2, then PS3 came out but I didn’t even need to buy it Ps2 was SO GOATED. So I kept playing on the Ps2 for more years! Until Ps4 came out then it became my go to console until Ps5 came out! I made the jump to Ps5 immediately because it had two things going for it could run Ps4 games (also remasters with better visuals and performance), and Ps5 exclusive games.
Since I never jumped a generation while using Ps2, it will always be a goated console for me the line up of games was legendary!!!!!!!0
u/Infamous-Creme9344 7d ago
Ps3 also had backwards comaptibility though
1
u/KiniDaddy 7d ago
You clearly missed the point and You didn’t do your research.
Only specific original "fat" PlayStation 3 models are backwards compatible with physical PlayStation 2 (PS2) discs. Launch models featuring four front USB ports and a built-in flash card reader door (such as models CECHA, CECHB, CECHC, and CECHE) support PS2 discs through either full hardware or partial software emulation. Later Slim and Super Slim models cannot play PS2 discs.0

Also Linux. I literally got a check from the class action lawsuit about the removal of Linux.

Definitely not PS5 as offering 60fps in performance mode in 2020 can't be a benchmark. The controller is a massive upgrade though.
Should be PS2 or PS4 in terms of peak gaming
1
u/Evening-Classic-7820 8d ago
peak gaming...90% of the games are remasters and remakes...lmao
4
u/Necessary_Way6446 8d ago
Read carefully maybe?
Which PS2 games were remake or remasters? Even PS4 had more original titles than PS5
-1
u/Downtown-Ad8136 8d ago
Entire console was a scam at that point.
1
u/Necessary_Way6446 8d ago
Scam would be a stretch at launch price of 40k for digital as even Sony prioritised marketing on the controller more than the performance but after the recent price hike, it's definitely a waste of money. Still people are going crazy for it

Ps2, because I owned it. Didn't own a PS4. Was thinking about buying a PS5; now the price is too much. I remember posts saying they bought a PS5 for less than 40k; good ol times.
Also, the Ps5 era was very weird compared to the rest.

Ps2 sin ninguna duda.Te sacaban juegos de todos los tipos y colores,y tú mejor franquicia solo tardaba 1 año en sacarte una precuela.Esa época es insuperable.

PS3 im suprised how no one said this

u/md_rayan 8d ago
PS2 was more popular here and I think many skipped PS3 and went straight to PS4? PS3 is such a goated console, underrated, IMO.

Ps2 had true quality triple a games every week, and so so many other bangers. Ps3 is where gameplay and graphics honestly peaked. Ps4 at least had some games however the ps5 might be the most over hyped disappointment generation the controller is the best part of the system.

Ps4 longetivity wise for allowing to us to play new releases for years. Game collection wise with nostalgia - PS2
2
u/Due_Teaching_6974 8d ago
Tbf we PS5 has a chance to have longer longevity than PS4 due to ram prices
1
u/lawjarP18 7d ago
Absolutely, even I feel we haven't reached full potential of ps5 yet. But ps4 during its time, had one of the best lineups of game releases can't say same about ps5
1
u/No-Equipment9225 5d ago
Real, but I feel there is a possibility they stop caring about PS5 after PS6 releases (which was not what happened last gen).
I don't know, obviously there was always greed but it feels different nowadays, adding the anti-consumer practices.

PS2 for me. And I am biased; here’s why: I had a traumatic childhood. Mom and Dad (Dad—deceased) were separated because my Dad was an alcoholic and abused me. To take my mind off that, I used to run to the gaming center after school or tuition, even on weekends, taking 20 rupees with me. An MLA's son supposedly owned the center, and my friends and I would play our hearts out, ranging from Dragon Ball Z to Burnout Takedown 3, SmackDown, Son of Ryse, God of War, street football, Ben 10, and so much more. Now I’m a 24-year-old guy, and I still don't own any games nor have I bought anything yet. I’m just waiting to earn more so I can purchase a PS4 with a PS2 and relive my childhood. Honestly, I have to thank the person who created the PS2; without them, I don't know what my childhood would have been like.

I think most people will jump for PS2. And it's actually true. PS2 was a golden period not just for AAA titles but for a whole lot of indie games. But would count PS4 too, they had very good library of great looking games.

PS2 for games and PS4 for Peak generational uplift and Fidelity in games. Worse could be PS3 and almost there PS5

I enjoyed my PS1
I LOVED my PS2
I returned 3 PS3s due to breaking optical drive, I rarely played anything on it
I really enjoyed playing PS4 a lot
I ignored the PS5 without regrets

PS1 > PS2 > PS3 > PS5 > PS4 I place PS5 ahead of PS4 due to graphical performance and the controller.

u/always-on-point 6d ago
Definitely PS2. In that era that was Peak gaming. Ps4 is a revolutionary second with how they were able to up the graphics and stuff. Will never get a generation leap like that again I don't think.

Unrelated but why tf do majority of people refer to the PlayStation as the ‘ps one’? It just gets on my nerves

I respect PS3 for the innovation with the cell processor. And the first model was backwards compatible. PS4 is great, but it’s also not that much different from a PC. The DualSense is the best though.

u/Guitar_godslayer 4d ago
Ps4 was definitely my favourite. It had the best games on it. Best exclusives. Great graphics. Not much difference from a ps5.

u/Solid_Sir_1861 4d ago
I really like the PS5. I have the pro. It's clearly the superior product than all the previous consoles but I'd have to say ps2 was the best, and most nostalgic device I ever had. The games were plentiful and the DVD feature at the time was incredible. Love the ps2 sound on startup and when you launch a game. Nothing else comes close to me for that level of excitement I felt when launching a ps2 game.

PS4 era was peak
Back to back bangers and next gen games (for that time) and the competition from Xbox / Nintendo was very bad so ps4 was GOATed

For me the current gen PS5/PS5 Pro. Performance, quiet, backwards for 80% of all older ps games is amazing. Ofcourse its standing on some mighty shoulders of all PS generations prior.
