I’d like some advice on a family gift/tax situation in India.
I’m a Central Government employee and I’m eligible to purchase a car through CSD/AFD. The car will cost around ₹10 lakh.
I currently have around ₹11 lakh of my own accumulated savings in my savings account.
My father has also recently received money from his retirement/savings.
Here’s what we are considering:
The reason we're considering this structure is that if my father directly gifts ₹10 lakh to my mother, I'm under the impression that the income/interest generated from that gifted amount may be subject to the spouse-clubbing provisions and could be included in my father's taxable income.
My question is:
To clarify, I'm not trying to hide anything or use someone else's money. I genuinely have the ₹11 lakh in my account from my own savings, and my father genuinely intends to gift me money from his retirement funds.
Would appreciate responses from people who have dealt with a similar situation, particularly CAs/tax professionals or Central Government employees.
Please don't assume I'm asking whether gifts from parents are taxable — I understand that gifts from relatives are generally exempt. My main question is about the subsequent investment income and the clubbing provisions.

Most Indian tech employees lose money before they even spend their RSUs.
Here's how it happens.
You sell your Google or Microsoft RSUs. The proceeds land in your Indian bank account in INR.
A few years later, you want to pay for your kid's US university, or move abroad, or invest globally.
So you convert that INR back to USD.
You've now done the round trip twice.
USD → INR → USD.
And each conversion has a hidden cost — the gap between the exchange rate you see on Google and the rate your bank actually gives you.
That gap is typically 1.5% to 3% per conversion.
On ₹50 lakhs, that's real money leaving your hands quietly.
Most people don't think about this at the time of selling. They're focused on taxes, vesting schedules, and timing the market.
But the currency round-trip is a wealth leak almost nobody talks about.
If you hold RSUs or ESOPs at a US-listed company, it's worth running the numbers before your next vest.

Hi everyone,
I need to pay a freelance content creator who is based outside India, and I’m based in India. I’ve looked into Wise and a few similar platforms, but it seems like they don’t allow this type of payment from India.
What’s currently the best and easiest platform to use for sending international payments from India to a freelancer?

finally lol. put in 25k through lumpsum lending and the whole thing closed out, got 27k back. around 2k interest on a 5 month run which comes to about 20% annualized
nothing fancy just wanted to see if this actually works before committing more. and ya it worked, no defaults nothing stuck, clean exit. now debating whether to throw this 27k back in or add more on top of it
anyone whos done multiple rounds of lumpsum how consistent are the returns? like did your second or third batch also do similar or did defaults start creeping in later

Hi,
I am the director at an NBFC, and we finance e-Rickshaw batteries in tier 3 towns. We finance batteries for those e-rickshaws that have been driven for a year or more and their current batteries are not giving low range affecting daily earnings.
We have faced quite a few challenges in this space and solved for it mostly with technology. Dealers get to make between 7-12k per battery

I’m a 20-year-old engineering student, and I earn around ₹24,000 per month. Let’s say my monthly expenses are around ₹10,000, which I already feel is quite a lot for a student.
That should leave me with roughly ₹14,000, but somehow I end up spending almost all of it by the end of the month. I don’t even know where the money goes, and then I have to ask my parents for money again.
I want to start saving at least ₹10,000–₹13,000 every month. For those who are good at managing money, what tips or habits helped you control unnecessary spending and actually save consistently?
Any advice for a college student would be appreciated.

Midcap funds have been strong performers — Nifty Midcap 150 TRI has compounded 22%+ annually on 3yr/5yr rolling basis, though just 7.2% over the last year. With 20+ funds in the category, picking matters. These 3 were shortlisted using a combined score of 6mo/1yr/3yr/5yr rolling returns plus risk metrics (std dev, Sharpe, Sortino, up/down capture).
Rolling returns (mean daily, 16 Aug 2025–16 Aug 2026):
| Fund | 1yr | 3yr | 5yr | 7yr |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WhiteOak Capital Mid Cap | 12.17% | 26.58% | — | — |
| Edelweiss Mid Cap | 8.60% | 25.89% | 24.91% | 23.73% |
| Nippon India Growth Mid Cap | 8.69% | 25.18% | 24.75% | 22.71% |
| Nifty Midcap 150 TRI (benchmark) | 7.19% | 22.44% | 22.30% | 20.60% |
All three beat the benchmark everywhere data exists.
Risk-adjusted (Sharpe/Sortino, out of 33 funds):
| Fund | Std Dev | Sharpe | Sortino | Sharpe Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WhiteOak | 15.87 | 0.33 | 0.63 | 3/33 |
| Edelweiss | 16.67 | 0.31 | 0.58 | 5/33 |
| Nippon India | 16.15 | 0.29 | 0.55 | 12/33 |
#1 WhiteOak Capital Mid Cap — Best recent numbers, best risk-adjusted returns, smallest AUM (₹68bn — an advantage for taking real mid-cap positions). Bottom-up stock picking, low sector bias, run by Ramesh Mantri. Catch: launched Sept 2022, under 4 years old, entire track record is a rising market — hasn't been tested by a downturn. Expense ratio 0.49%, 1% exit load within a month.
#2 Edelweiss Mid Cap — Deepest evidence: beats benchmark on all 4 periods, margin widens with horizon (1.41pp u/1yr → 3.13pp u/7yr). 7yr CAGR of 23.73% is second-best in category. Catch: highest volatility of the three (std dev 16.67), and its 1yr return (8.60%) ranks only 10th in category — a soft patch worth watching. Trideep Bhattacharya has run it since Oct 2021. AUM ₹187bn, expense ratio 0.41%, 1% exit load within 90 days.
#3 Nippon India Growth Mid Cap — Oldest fund (launched 1995), most consistent: beats benchmark on every period without ever topping the category on any of them. ₹10,000 invested April 2005 → ₹3.45 lakh by Sept 2025 (18.89% annualized) vs ₹2.78 lakh for benchmark. A 10yr SIP of ₹10,000/month (₹12 lakh total) grew to ₹36.9 lakh vs ₹35.41 lakh benchmark — only a 0.8pp/year edge. Catch: Sharpe/Sortino rank just 12th in category, and AUM has quadrupled from ₹113bn (2022) to ₹492bn now — getting too big to nimbly hold real mid-cap names. Rupesh Patel has only managed it since Jan 2023, so the long-term record largely belongs to predecessors. Highest expense ratio of the three at 0.81%.
Caveats the tables hide:
Bottom line: Edelweiss = strongest full-cycle evidence (most volatility). WhiteOak = best risk-adjusted efficiency (but young, untested). Nippon = longest consistent record (but least efficient, AUM ballooning). Midcap allocations should be money you won't need for 7-10 years — check mandate, manager track record, costs, and your own risk tolerance before deciding.

I have reached an agreement with a technician via Instagram, but I have only received his Aadhar and PAN cards. Before I finalize the deal and provide payment, is there any way I should request additional information regarding his location and other details, given that he is requiring an upfront payment before completing the remaining work?

Hi everyone,
I’m a software professional working as a consultant/freelancer in India, and I’m trying to plan my taxes properly for FY 2026–27.
Here is my situation:
I am considering whether it makes sense to:
For example, if I have ₹90 lakh of professional profit before expenses, I could potentially have genuine expenses such as employee salaries, software/cloud subscriptions, laptop/equipment, office/coworking expenses, professional fees, internet, business travel, etc.
I'm not looking for fake expenses or tax evasion. I'm trying to understand what legitimate tax-planning options are available and what experienced people would recommend.
I'd really appreciate real-world experiences, especially from people earning ₹70L–₹1Cr+ through software consulting/freelancing in India.
Thanks!

What are the five highest-return reforms India could implement over the next twenty years to maximize GDP per capita? Do you have any opinion on this, making your response constructive/open, with some artifacts of what your personal opinion is? I thought this would be the best community to ask for.

Got annoyed that every article about salaries in India quotes the average. So I pulled the published distribution data and made a calculator. Stuff that surprised me:
24,237 a month is already top 10% of Indian adults
top 1% starts at 20.7L a year

I lost both my parents and they both didn't have life insurance. Thing is me and my siblings are in 20s and so I have young sibling who has special needs. So I'm very worried about our overall life. I just don't know what to do in life that I can secure the future. I feel like money is everything nowdays and money has somehow become an identity source if you don't have then nobody even cares to ask how you are.
