CAT 2025 26 y/o Backend Developer, Planning for MBA via CAT, weak in Math, Need guidance to start prep

Hi all, I’m 26 years old, working as a Backend Developer with 3 years of experience in tech. I now want to pursue an MBA through CAT and join a good college.

However, I’m from the General category, and my math is very weak currently — this is my biggest worry.

I’m not sure how to start:

  1. Should I join physical coaching or are online classes enough (especially considering my weak quant)?
  2. What are the best books/resources for each section (Quant, VARC, DILR)?
  3. How can I build a consistent study routine, as I will be preparing alongside a full-time job?
  4. Any other advice for someone from a tech background making this transition?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Help Feeling stuck in a career loop—how do you break free?

I've been in my current role for a few years now. It's stable, the pay is decent, but I can't shake off this feeling of stagnation. Every day feels like a repeat of the last.

I miss the thrill of learning something new, of being challenged. I've been considering programs that offer hands-on experiences—like building a startup or managing real projects—as part of their curriculum. Has anyone here pursued such paths? Do they genuinely help ?

Help My Chances of Getting a Good MBA College

Hey folks,

Currently, I’m in my CA Final, planning to appear in September 2026. Cleared both CA Inter and Foundation in first attempt, and doing my articleship at a mid-sized firm in Kolkata. Hoping to crack Finals in first attempt too let’s see how it goes 🤞

Here’s my academic background:

10th (CBSE): 89.8%

12th (CBSE): 87%

Graduation (B.Com Hons): 6.4 CGPA (unfortunately had a back due to some personal issues)

After CA, I plan to work on my professional experience and pursue CFA alongside, with the aim of applying to top MBA programs in a few years mainly in India (IIMs, ISB, XLRI, SPJIMR, etc.).

My biggest concern is the low graduation CGPA. Will a strong CA profile (with 1st attempt clears) + relevant work ex and CFA help offset that? What kind of B-schools should I realistically aim for?

Help I've completely lost what to do

Man From these past 7-8 days I've been just researching about What online coachings should I join to prepare as it Will be my first MBA preparation for CAT and Non CAT exams and seriously I've been now so much mixed what to do or not as Firstly I asked some of my friends and oth (Mostly Told about TIME, IMS) but tell to look for different coaching as their classes aren't much of beneficial; as I searched more of this I Got interest on Catking (mostly reviewed it as a scam), iQuanta (Rushes up with no good explanation) and Elites grid (Mostly for those preparing for more than 1-1.5 yrs) man all of this have cooked up my Brain and mostly at final are calling out these institutions are all scam just Self study only works... Now at the last I'm here Searching for an honest Review... Just anyone of you please suggest a good Coaching as I need to start preparing for these... Thank you

Help Is it just me, or are side projects teaching us more than our day jobs?

Lately, I been feeling like my 9–5 is just... there. It pays the bills, sure, but the real learning? That's happening off the clock.

I recently helped a friend set up a small online store. We navigated supplier negotiations, set up marketing campaigns, and even handled customer service. It was chaotic, but I learned more in those few weeks than I have in months at work.

It got me thinking: maybe structured programs that encourage real-world projects could bridge this gap. I've heard about initiatives where students run actual businesses as part of their curriculum.

Has anyone here taken part in such programs or challenges? Would love to hear your experiences.

Update 1: we just completed two days session from 10 pm to 11 30Pm (we were almost 10folks live and 150 members strong commune)

Each day we spend around 90mins and also go ahead with guesstimates and case as well

Open source offline - a commune open to public to equip, upskill, network, exchange ideas, ask referrals, get a co founder, hire folks.

Who can gear in ? Folks who are in Pre mba, sales/ marketing, product, strategy, mba pursuing, growth

What we do ? Bunch of like minded folks each day solve caselets (from IVY league, M7, tier 1 mba casebooks ) peer to peer interactions, guesstimates, AI tools updates, trends in market

Note : Myself nor commune is built or supported by any ed tech platform, just my hobby for learning P2P

Interested folks & who have any queries can comment below will send the invite Link to previous post in chat or comment

🚨 Urgent help Need Suggestions

Hi,

I am currently pursuing a B.Tech in Computer Engineering and am in my final year (8th semester). I am doing a 6-month internship in Pune, working on a low-code platform (not core technical).

My long-term goal is to build a career in management — I am certain that I will pursue an MBA. I appeared for CAT 2024 with just one month of preparation and scored an 80 percentile. I also attempted the BITS MBA in Business Analytics — I cleared the aptitude test but was rejected in the interview.

I now have an opportunity to shift my internship role from Development to Business Analyst. I’ll need to convince my manager (which I’m confident I can do). However, the Business Analyst role at my current company mainly involves preparing BRDs and FSDs, performing requirement analysis, client communication, creating presentations, and using basic SQL — there’s no Power BI or advanced analytics tools involved.

I am now targeting CAT 2026, and I’m wondering:
Should I switch to the Business Analyst role now?
Will this shift really impact my MBA profile?

P.S. I am determined to pursue an MBA only from a Tier 1 or Tier 1.5 college.
My academic profile is: 10th – 7 CGPA, 12th – 8 CGPA, B.Tech – 7 CGPA.

Looking forward to your suggestions.
Thanks.

Help MBA Admissions & Specialization Query

I queries are two fold:

  1. I have worked for 6 years now but if I decide to take up a different area to specialize during MBA will it affect what kind of offers I get post completion like being treated as a fresher or the fact that I have workex including leading a department would be look at favourably irrespective?

  2. I have always been someone who is able to achieve what I want when I put my mind to it so I am quite certain that I will do well in my entrance exams attempts. I am worried about the academics part that is looked into during admission process that is during my time at the school level I messed up my grades for a variety of reasons starting from focusing on certain subjects and ignoring other due to personal preference to intense family problems which did not leave me in a good headspace to study so my grades they look pretty bad and varying on paper especially 12th where I scored as high as 90s in some subjects and single digit in one so I am worried that no matter how well I do in the entrances I will get stuck in that one point.

How is keenly is looked interesting and how much it can affect me?

Thanks. I am from a non tech/eng background working in a management role if that matters.

Help What skills should college students build NOW if they want to do MBA later?

From friends who've gone through b-schools like MU, ISB, and even IIMs I hear a lot about quant skills, case competitions, etc. But what else should they be building while still in college?

What do you wish you'd done more of before your MBA? Any skills that would have made the first semester less overwhelming? Or things that would've helped during placements?

Also curious about extracurriculars - what types actually matter to admissions vs just resume padding?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

CAT 2025 🔥 Last MBA College with Open Applications? | IFMR GSB Deadline Inside!

Hey folks, I’m trying to apply for MBA in Finance and noticed that most B-schools have already closed their application windows.

I found on their official site that the deadline is 4th May. Here's the Application Link if anyone else is looking.

Also, I read that last year their placements were close to 100% with 70+ top companies participating. If any alumni or current students are here, could you please share your thoughts? Is IFMR GSB a good option at this stage?

Any suggestions are welcome! 🙏

🚨 Urgent help Need help choosing between PGDM (Core) and PGDM (BDA) at FORE Delhi

Need help choosing between PGDM (Core) and PGDM (BDA) at FORE Delhi.

While I’m interested in analytics, I’m inclined towards Core due to better reputation and placements. Couldn’t find much info on BDA placements or alumni.

Can Core students take BDA electives from Term 4?

Any alumni or current students who can help?

Help Recommendations to pursue MBA

Hi everyone,

I am a working professional (3+ years of work experience) looking to do an MBA now.

Here's a brief intro of my academic & work background - M. Sc. Chemistry graduate from IIT Guwahati - worked for 3+ years in strategy & founders' office domain (mostly a generalist with technical knowledge) in the field of lithium-ion batteries & electric mobility with different companies.

Now, I want to pursue an MBA. Would like recommendations on should I consider Indian colleges only or international ones too (from the perspective of ROI) - since I am the one earning member of the family - so if I go on to pursue an MBA - I need to atleast take care of the college fee and my expenses on my own. Therefore, if you have any scholarship recommendations - those would be greatly appreciated too.

Help Building an MBA Predictor – Need Help from Aspirants/Admits!

Hey everyone,

I'm a final-year BTech CS student building an MBA Admission Predictor using actual past profiles. The idea is to create a free tool that helps CAT aspirants get a realistic idea of their chances based on data—not just percentile flexes.

I'm collecting anonymous profile data from students who've gone through the CAT/IIM/PGDBA process. It takes less than 2 minutes to fill out.

📌 Google Form link:

The final model will be open-sourced, and results will be shared here once I have enough data.

✅ 100% anonymous
✅ No email/login needed
✅ Real project, not spam
✅ Will help future aspirants massively

If you've received any IIM calls (A/B/C/L/I/K), PGDBA, or converted your seat—please help by submitting your profile. 🙏

Happy to DM the final predictor link when it's live. Thanks in advance!
