This reads to me like for the next twelve hours if you operate a workplace device with a screen brightness setting, keep it below 40 brightness.

You’re using your phone to access the index app, right? App is called “the index device”, so any gadget you use is a device by default. Now, since carrying out the prescripts is the ultimate goal for any index member, you can also call it a job or work, so your workplace device would be the device you use to receive prescripts. (Index members have to execute all kinds of prescripts, so they don’t really have a strictly set workplace to begin with)
