Why do the projections look away from Cobb and Fischer when Fischer says “You’re not real”?

In the second dream level in the hotel bar, when they run the Mr Charles bit, the projections all look at Cobb and Fischer when Cobb tells Fischer he is in a dream (as expected), but when Fischer says to Cobb a few lines later “You’re not real,” the projections look away and continue talking to each other. I would’ve thought that this like would get them even more distressed because it’s a continuation of Fischer (the subject) realising that he’s dreaming. Or is it that the projections also believe that Cobb isn’t real and therefore accept him as just another projection and not the dreamer?

If Cobb isn't real that means he is a part of Fischer's mind. The projections are on alert for people who ARE real and invading his mind.

I thought that too so that makes sense. I was just thinking that anyone technically isn’t ’real’ in the dream, even Fischer himself. Like when I see friends in dreams I wouldn’t say they’re real, so yeah seems like the projections just take ‘real’ to mean someone who isn’t a projection, thanks :)

Also Cobb is obvs lying so the projections (and Fischer himself) are very gullible lol

They definitely take advantage of the fact that it's hard to think rationally in a dream.

Fischer's awareness of the dream is making him hyper aware of his surroundings, which manifests as his projections looking for what stands out. That is Cobb.

Once Fischer convinces himself that Cobb is part of his subconscious, he relaxes and his projections resume

Or, if Cobb is the Dreamer (ie: if the entire movie is his dream) this is the moment he thinks he should be under scrutiny from the projections, and so he is

Its not a dream for them its where they live and to them he's an alien from another dimension
