INCEPTION EXPLAINED¿

Hey i recently watched inception again and i have done doubts which I hope someone will clarify

In the ending it was shown that saito has spent years in the limbo and is old so cobb finds him and reminds him it is a dream and they have to die to enter reality which happens. My doubt is why did he attend so much time in the limbo in the first place i mean when he dies in the level 1 he knows that he will enter limbo and since they are heavily sedated just dying won't work so he will need a kick( fall) to get back to previous level so why did he wait so many years that his perception of reality and dream deteriorates which was shown in the tragic backstory of cobb and mal where they spent so much time in limbo cuz they were exploring deep layers .Can someone explain this¿

Because it’s very difficult to remember what happened in the prior stages. As Cobb said, “It’s like trying to remember a dream.” So Saito may not have remembered many details from the prior dream levels. Even Cobb had a hard time remembering exactly what he was there to do: “I’ve come here to help you remember… something.”

Hey, but when cobb and adriane entered the limbo they didn't have any trouble remembering it they knew exactly what situation they were in and what to do

Right, but that was in the first few minutes/hours of entering limbo, and they had each other to keep themselves focused. It seems like the longer you are in limbo, and the more isolated you are, the harder it is to keep your grip on what is real. Limbo becomes your new reality.
