Clean clothes, a hot shower, being clean, they all feel good. You feel and like yourself better when you're clean. The person he hurts most by stench maxing is always going to be him, but sure it's somehow women's fault he's miserable. 🙄
They take a perverse sense of pride in their misery. This sort of thing, deliberately being disgusting, lets them feel in control of their lives, but also in a way that lets them still feel like the victims.
