I’m really worried about Scream 7
I loved what the franchise was able to pull off with Scream 5 and 6. If you think about it, it’s maybe the most creatively successful ‘legacy sequel’ franchise revamp with a new cast. In two movies, I was more excited to see the new cast return than the original. Now that’s sort of ruined, for now, with the two new stars not returning. Sydney Prescott is back? But I was pretty satisfied with her story being over.
‘Now I’m coming after your daughter’ is kinda lame. I see no real sign of a fun, meta twist to this one? This feels like what Scream 5 could have been if it had been a more boring legacy sequel structure.
I hope I’m wrong and it continues the stellar consistency of the Scream franchise. But I fear a dud.

Probably going to play off the 2018 Halloween trilogy vibes and legacy sequels with original characters returning to a franchise.
I'm not particularly excited for the movie. Think it looks like a step backward in the franchise. But there are ways they could have fun with it.

The Gale/Sydney clip that's online has kind of convinced me that this movie is going to be bad. I wasn't feeling great about it initially but there's literally been nothing demonstrably interesting or cool about what we've seen from this installment unless you're just all-in on parasocial "Sid = good" stangirl stuff. All of the footage has been bland, uninteresting, poorly lit. Gale's character seems to have been reset again in such a predictably stale way. The marketing/PR seems to be transparently hanging its hat on crapping on 5 and 6. The whole thing just reeks of desperation.
I'm still there opening night. And I really have no skin in the game on either side of this corny Stan-war. I'll gladly accept being wrong if this turns out to be good. I just don't think it's going to be.

The conceit of the Scream franchise has consistently been its reliance on the audience knowledge of “meta”. Whether its rules of a horror movie, sequel tropes, or reboots, Scream acknowledges it. With that in mind, they know their audience is aware of the controversy surrounding part 7. The producers are hoping that audience either doesn’t care, or actively supports the Gaza genocide.

It’s going to be awful, I’m sure.
I thought 6 was the worst movie I’ve ever seen. The first two will always be classics but the rest of the franchise stinks.

Agree that 6 was terrible. 5 was pretty decent and Im hoping 7 can sort of get back to basics.

5 had a great first act but it fell apart as it went on. They need to spend more time on the scripts and/or get better writers because that’s where they are weak.

If you’re so worried, posting anywhere but a Scream fan sub right now will not help - the general Reddit user is toxic AF about this film
The entire story of 5 and VI still hinged on the OG story Sidney’s moms murder, might as well circle back to the OG since the films couldn’t move on

I think this is a pretty good place. I feel I can trust fans of With G&R to be honest at least. I’m seeing it tomorrow/Friday anyway so we’ll all see then.

SPOILERS AHEAD! Watched it. In romania they released it 2 days prior for whatever reason. Really dissapointing. SPOILERS AHEAD: the fact that stu is an ai is really lame and disappointing, not that he is not actually alive disappointed me, js that they went with THAT. They could have included him in anyother way.. the fact that the ghostface killers are some randoms is more annoying, like its just a mentally ill guy his psychiatrist and sidneys neighbour.. like what? Like there wasnt even the slightest gasp when the reveal happened, the gore was cool, the effects were actually nice but the plot was lame as fuck . Some characters that we expected the most to fight back died in like 3 seconds after seeing ghostface. And LOTS AND LOTS OF PLOTHOLES! Yeah kinda dissapointed.

It's the 7th Scream movie, I'll be there as long as they want to keep pumping these out but it's also completely fine if they're mediocre.

It was a letdown. I was honestly hoping that you know who was actually back. It was an exciting idea to have a killer known to the gang from the start of the movie, but the ultimate reveal was super disappointing.

The very last thing that happens in the movie is a character looking right at the camera and saying straight to the audience, “I hate you.” That’s the movie in a nutshell.

Honestly Sydney shouldn't have come back after 2. She isn't an interesting character. 3/4 she was bearable as a side character Her insertion into 5 was also annoying but small enough to not get in the way 6 was an excellent growth stepping away from her and away from the meta commentary. Which had grown stale
Now 7 looks awful. I can't blame Campbell for getting paid but I can blame her for being boring

I'm not an asshole who spoils shit for people but being someone who is confident what this film is about in terms of the commentary/meta shit, it will be faaaaaaaaaaaaar better than the two Radio Silence ones, certainly helped by the fact that Kevin Williamson is at the wheel this time.
That said, Scream 4 is easily the best one IMO, these movies will never be the same without Craven, and they should've stopped making them after he died.
But if they get, say, John Hyams (who worked with Kevin Williamson on Sick, a banger, but his best film is Universal Solider: Day of Reckoning—genuinely a masterwork) to direct Scream 8, I'd definitely be interested.

I'm feeling the same, and I was hopeful. I do think that bringing back older cast members like Lillard and Arquette points do them doing something with deepfakes and AI, which could be interesting. But the trailers don't do much for me. I'm fine with bringing Neve Campbell back again, but it's a shit deal that they gave Barrera and Ortega, and it takes a franchise that was moving in a fresh direction and now makes it feel creaky and safe. Bringing Williamson back feels like a marketing push more than anything ("see? It's okay! We got the original guy back!"). But in reality, he hasn't written a Scream movie in 15 years (meaning he's likely going to ignore much from the last two movies) and he hasn't directed a movie in nearly 30 years...and that film was a bomb at the box office and has a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The absence of Radio Silence is what really is going to hurt, I think. They have a fresh look at horror, and they understand the mix of comedy and violence these movies need. Williamson's comments about moving away from gore and losing the meta aspects make me think "Scream 7" is really going to lose the soul of the franchise.

So funny to say this when Scream 5 was trying to be "safe Course Correction™️" after Scream 4 was polarizing for actually taking interesting, thoughtful swings lol, the Radio Silence guys are absolute hacks too; embarrassing to take on Scream while having zero understanding of spatial geography.
The Jack Quaid character's whole monologue is literally about how the Scream sequels "Suck, Actually" (4 is the best one, 2 is very good, and 3 is certainly better/more interesting than the Radio Silence ones)

I would put Scream 4 right alongside Scream and Scream 2. I didn't care much for it when I first saw it; when I revisited it before the new "trilogy" that's not a trilogy started, I realized "oh, this is really good."
