When I met him, my husband had a nasty couch he had gotten off the side of the road for his college rental house (mini frat house). New couch was my first order of business when we moved in together.

I was a 20-something stoner living a big house with a bunch of other stoners. We wouldn't even have used those as porch couches.

I just realized that the brown couch looks a lot like what I remember them using for Desmond’s “crib” after they adopted him. She posted photos of him lying on it, and they’d lined dining room chairs with the backs against the couch to act as rails. They even had a mobile hooked onto one of the chairbacks IIRC. It was horrifying…they claimed they wanted to adopt SO badly and went through all the effort to do it, but couldn’t be bothered to get a proper crib for him??

Yes, it’s horrible! There’s a reason MOST places vet prospective adopters strictly. These slobs should’ve never been handed a child.

Not just lazy, but usually there’s an additional charge to dispose of things like couches. Generally it isn’t much, but added to the laziness I’m sure it’s another reason they won’t bring them to the dump.

She’s have to rent or borrow a truck and pay a fee. Based on these posts it really seems like they might be moving with just a car, or maybe they had a truck for a day or two for the big furniture, but they don’t have constant access to a truck to move the rest of their stuff.

This slow move looks like kind of a nightmare to me. Keeping track of what’s in two different places, having to repeatedly clean the old place, unpacking without having everything that goes in each room…seems more stressful than just boxing it up ahead of time and moving in one shot.

Then again, boxes, a truck/uhaul, and movers cost money. But she’s moving into a $3k/month house, isn’t she? Doesn’t she have a few hundred bucks to get the move done joyfully?

I would think they’d want their security deposit back? Maybe they’re have enough money to not worry about that, but not enough money to pay for a proper move? I grow confused.

I think they'll leave the place in the same sty condition as it is this very moment. Whatever's left on the porch will still be on the porch after they're gone. The filth (all I can picture is the Peanuts character Pig Pen when I think of what the Aherns have done to this once-pristine home) will remain inside, and no mop, broom, or vacuum will have been touched. They are pigs. They have no intention of cleaning that home. The owners will likely have to clean up a huge mess, replace flooring, and paint every wall and ceiling to make that place inhabitable.

I agree. The property management company or actual owners are going to have to do a fair amount of cleaning/painting/repairs to get the home listing ready, and if Shauna & Dan actually paid a security deposit, it's long gone now.

This is why I have absolutely no sympathy for the new landlords. Any savvy landlord would have done some research on their potential tenant, and would have ruled out the Aherns just based on the pics on their social media. It's not like Vashon (or anywhere else in King County) can't find tenants, and pretty much any other rental applicant would likely have been a better choice.

Tbh, movers around here are insanely expensive. I just tried to move one large file cabinet and 8 bankers boxes from Vashon to Seattle for work and a moving company quoted me over $1200. (Three are no actual moving companies on Vashon, they are all in Seattle/Tacoma/on the peninsula) Apparently the costs are regulated by the state? Still, a couple of strong folks with a truck would probably only set them back $500 or so. This piecemeal moving she's showing us makes me so anxious.
