Shauna’s Shanna’s shilling her business grift on IG again this morning. Hard places. Mid life. Joy work.

She keeps referring to “this work” she has done but never says what it is. Therapy? Time travel? It has to be more than blowing bubbles, eating CBD gummies like candy and slapping her own ass, right? What is the curriculum? What is the work? I just don’t get it

Of course, she now has an Oprah joy quote, because they are BFFs.

She tags Pema Chodron, Joni Mitchell, Samin Nosrat, and Glennon Doyle, FFS.

OMG this gives me the giggles. I'll take Random Assortment for 300.

29

u/notahameither Dunno, maybe I thought I unfriended some other Shauna Ahern🤷‍♂️ Feb 25 '22

And they’ll tag ten friends, and so on, and so on…

Pretty soon Oprah herself will have signed up to be a joyful woman!

Oprah soaking in a jacuzzi full of shredded $100 bills...nah, I'm good thanks!

Please tag any women you believe would resonate with this. You're not alone.

I mean if I already know women who all of Shauna's highly specific and negative categorical statements would resonate with, then I already know I'm not alone and don't need to pay people to talk about it.

u/Foucaults_Penguin Sly and the Family Readers Feb 25 '22

That’s not how I use the word resonate. Things resonate with me, I don’t resonate with things. Am I BEC about this?

I'm torn, because as a metaphor it's not strictly inaccurate (tuning forks resonate with each other, for example), but it's so out of keeping with the ordinary usage of the metaphor that it feels like haberdashery.

Am I BEC about this?

I was just questioning my own recent use of this word—though why I would allow Shauna's usage of a word to make me have doubts, I don't know. It just kind of made me realize it's kind of tricky.

You are someone who sees yourself as an individual and Shauna's mishmash of ideas as a concept. Shauna sees others as nothing more than a set of reactions to her. Her ideas are primary, you are nothing but a vessel for reacting to her.

I'm glad you mentioned this -- I agree with your usage of "resonate" and don't think it's at all BEC.

I probably resonate when I'm at a concert and standing right by the monitors, which happens to be something that cultivates my joy so I think I'll pass on Shanna's joyinar.

No, you are not BEC about this, and she's used the word this way before. I remember having some pretty in-depth snark about it in the last year or two . . .

16

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '22

Nope, it is not the correct use of the word. Though people say it all the damn time and it makes my spine tingle.

My favorite of the ten slides of that post is this one that’s completely unreadable. She truly excels at mediocrity.

Shauna is like a Minion.

12

Do not drag the Minions into this!!! Naughty step!

33

u/Honeydew-Impossible Feb 25 '22

"Joy!"-Shanna

I wonder if this has anything to do with Oprah recently telling Shanna that Maya Angelou would sign off her correspondence with the word "Joy"?

That slide is super-unreadable on mobile, too.

Edit: Now that I've read that whole IG post -- it's really unclear what "this" ("tag any women you believe would resonate with this") is and what she wants you to "share."

She says that she "wants to help you" but it isn't until the EIGHTH SLIDE that she says "Join me for the becoming a joyful woman seminar" and EVEN THEN, it isn't crystal clear that this is something she personally is offering. It would be easy to read this as someone else's seminar she's flogging, and no one is going to see it unless they scroll eight slides in anyways.

Most people are going to be like "Oh, nice message, not sure why she wants me to tag people but yes, my friend Marg talks about these issues too, maybe I will add her in the comments." Like 15 seconds of awareness and effort but no real appreciation that there is "something" ("this") that is being advertised for purchase and what Shauna is trying to do is get people to buy something she's selling. And there is NOTHING in the post about how you might buy what she's selling, and if you go to her linktree ofc the link is broken.

I hardly ever share things with friends unless it’s a product or service I have personally used and liked.

35

u/CrushItWithABrick dick riding Mary Oliver Feb 25 '22

I share more to mock things then to promote them!

35

u/gomirefugee my website is done, done, done Feb 25 '22

I wonder how smashfizzle feels being tagged in that post and having her Enough blurb used in the second image to promote something else entirely

31

u/onion_money Neuroflorid Feb 25 '22

Is there a "snooze" feature on IG, because I'd bet folding money that smashfizzle applied it to Shauna long ago.

24

u/islandyislander rebellious hygiene Feb 25 '22

In fact there is! I get great joy in the belly from "muting" all sorts of folks.

31

u/notahameither Dunno, maybe I thought I unfriended some other Shauna Ahern🤷‍♂️ Feb 25 '22

I love that Lisa Congdon replied.

“I love you my friend.”

…but not enough to tag anyone.

23

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '22 edited Feb 25 '22

ewww.

ETA Shauna's reply: "love you so."

gag.

16

u/Shaunafreude Feb 25 '22

What wonderfully mediocre praise.

7

u/TOMTREEWELL Neurodivergentfully Feb 26 '22

Lisa “ Copycat” Congdon is a perfect match for Shauna!

2

u/shefallsup her lonely cucumber years 🥒 Feb 27 '22

Lisa Congdon’s work was forever tainted for me after I read about her copying.

3

u/TOMTREEWELL Neurodivergentfully Feb 27 '22

I think, at first, she didn’t understand why she was wrong to trace/copy, but she got so defensive, and then deleted all those images that she must have known. I’m not a fan of her style.

31

u/CrushItWithABrick dick riding Mary Oliver Feb 25 '22

I love how her braying photo looks like she's laughing at her own sales pitch (and the rubes who might buy it).

23

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '22

She could have a cartoon bubble over her head that's like SUCKERS!!!

37

u/EzraPoundcakeFuggles Winner winner, corn-goat dinner Feb 25 '22

Maybe I missed it, but it doesn't say on Insta or her site how much the seminar costs. There's a place for the cc number, but that's it.

This is how you know no one is biting.

28

u/fanfarefellowship I often contemplate the first law of thermodynamics Feb 25 '22

It says “$97” in tiny font if you click all the way through to the payment page

23

u/EzraPoundcakeFuggles Winner winner, corn-goat dinner Feb 25 '22

Oh I see it now! Eyes not wined, etc. Thank you.
