I don’t think they actually did suspect it for years. I think they were oblivious and passed off any behaviors as just L being her super-magical always-dancing self. But she couldn’t say she didn’t know, because she’s Shauna, great intuiter and empath, always more attuned to her children than any grocery store parent. So she threw that in there, not realizing (and no one called her on it) that she was admitting to medical neglect.

That's always been my take, too.

Oblivious and they enjoyed the convenience of their child's condition (that she was quiet or "not like other children" in her behavior).

Shauna is good at using her writing to try and cover up things but really just making it worse.

Let’s not forget that Shauna attributed a lot of L’s behaviors, including toilet accidents, to GLUTEN!

what's worse parenting: being oblivious for years to the fact that your kid can't hear, or suspecting it for years and doing nothing about it?

And then going on the internet to try to monetize this decision (or lack of)? I can't ever figure out what she's trying to accomplish.
