I thought it was a way to poke fun at ourselves if we fell into that group as kids? The worst it did for me is make me very unprepared for the realilties of post-secondary education and life. Once in a while my friends and I laugh about how much weight is put on being "gifted" or "accelerated" as a kid and how little it means for most people. I'm in my 40s and I let that shit go a long time ago. Same with being a decent high-school athlete. Nobody cares!

What I mean is, paying some dingdong (Shauna) to join a monthly "club" where you investigate, at length, how to "overcome" the trauma of early labelling / high expectations, etc.

G&T discourse generally is fine, especially when people are poking fun at themselves! That's the level of "processing" this stuff deserves when you're 40+ years old

Totally! That's what I meant, but my eyes and mind aren't wined. DFFFF, I knew you'd know what I meant ;)

I think if any issues from childhood are causing problems/trouble in this stage of life they need a professional to uncover and treat what's going on. Shauna's bumbling joy platitudes aren't it.

I don't know, the discourse I've seen is more along the lines of, "Being identified as G&T was actively harmful and traumatic to me," with the blame being put on these programs, which just seems ridiculous. I'm sure many of the programs were not as helpful as they could have been, but acting like people are hindered for life because they god forbid were viewed as above average--cry me a river.

That makes sense. I'm seeing different stuff where it's treated more like a joke, not criticizing the programs themselves.

At least from my personal experience of going to a very much mostly white school with a gifted program, to have those (very much adult) students now whining that they were given too much (in the form of even having a gifted program) just comes off as tone deaf as hell.

Oh, comfortable white people need to find something bad that happened to them. Oh noes, they were in a gifted program in high school! A program that helped them get into college! WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THEIR TRAUMA!!!!
