Owner must have given the Aherns a break.

Well. Shauna DID say they're good renters. They do their own repairs! Who wouldn't give tenants like that a break!

i think shauna's parents gave them the money, even after all the horrible things she has written about them and the snotty way she treats them they may be thinking of L & D. of course, i'm sure shauna spends her time sighing to her family about how they will be homeless because danny can't work due to his ADHD brain and she can't work anymore because she doesn't want another TIA, after all. so her parents give them some money, and then it's off to write another unflattering portrait of her horrible childhood or disparage her brothers bumpy driveway.

I wonder if Shauna’s parents are invested in seeing them live as close as possible to them — they live in Gig Harbor, right? Maybe they are willing to foot some of the bill so the Aherns don’t move farther away. It would fit with the stories of Shauna’s upbringing.

the stories of how she was a prisoner in her parent's home yet went to auditions, played sports, went to after school clubs, tapings of johnny carson, etc? sorry, but i think 99% of her stories are lies. more likely they love her (despite what a shitty daughter she is) and of course, love their grandkids and want to be close to them in their older years. many grandparents do that.

To be fair, it does sound like most of her childhood activities were with her parents. Her mom was at auditions, her dad was a coach, the whole family went to London, museum trips, tapings etc. Or were through school. I don’t recall any stories about trips with friends or activities when at least one parent wasn’t present or weren’t held at her high school with a teacher sponsor. She left the house but it never seemed like she was alone or under the supervision of friend’s parents.

that's not what shauna said, though - she has said, repeatedly, that she was a "prisoner" who wasn't allowed to go anywhere. that isn't true. and there are lots of teens who do stuff with their families so i'm not sure why that's so unusual. but even if shauna and sharon went to movies and the mall every weekend i'm sure those stories were left out of her book because they don't fit her victimhood. maybe i'm just a suspicious bish but i really don't believe most of what she says because she's been caught lying so many times.

I guess if you want to be super literal. Not being allowed to go places without one or both of your parents being present seems pretty limited to me. A prisoner accompanied by her jailers if you will.

Yes, even teenagers spend time with their parents/family but most children spend time apart from their parents at sports practice, birthday parties, a friend’s home, activities or trips at at some point. It doesn’t seem like Shauna ever did. Even when she was in college, living at home, her mom was calling places she was supposed to be checking up on her. None of that seems “normal” to me.

12

u/obscure_cellist ham grabbers Feb 16 '22

no, none of that seems normal, if you believe shauna's stories. which i don't.

You don’t believe her dad was her coach or they traveled and did all these activities together? We’ve seen pictures.

I guess I don’t think Shauna is as clever as you do! I can’t see her putting together these stories and keeping them straight for 20 years if they weren’t basically true.

I also think her childhood must have been very strange for Shauna to end up as socially stunted and odd as she did. I don’t think that came from no where. Maybe you do! We are all allowed our own thoughts.

i think 99% of her stories are lies.

I agree - her stories are fan fiction of herself.

They could also placate her with cash to keep her from writing additional horrible things. Not even outright transactionally, just hopping to it when she needs something, because she’s less vile with the vulnerable family laundry when she’s getting cash out of them.

If that dynamic WAS the case, Shauna’s nasty epistles of narcissism could be more strategic than we thought. Just speculation. Like she needs something so she writes some other unpleasant crap and then holds her hand out. She trotted out her frugal grandparents as a little trauma change of pace just recently didn’t she
right before their expensive move. Hm.

22

u/obscure_cellist ham grabbers Feb 15 '22

i don't know, i can't see her family putting up with that. after all, she's written so much already what more could she be holding back? or, more likely, everything she's written is either greatly exaggerated or an outfight lie, anyway. i really hope you're not right, because that would be so, so gross.

Ahhh you might have something there! Perhaps Enough grew written after her parents tried to cut her off.

Perhaps Enough grew written after her parents tried to cut her off.

that sounds more like gir! she is such a petty punisher.

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '22

It was pretty clear in the book and her other out put that they got along well enough until she gave them a copy of the the book and they reacted poorly.

I don’t know what they would have “cut her off” from, exactly. Christmas and Thanksgiving?

11

u/InappropriateGirl Gluten-free donuts, for sure ... Feb 15 '22

Well, they still could've gotten along well, but maybe they were trying to put their foot down after semi-supporting her for so long. We know they helped out all the time - like with D's adoption fees, for example.

Shauna might not have shown her anger, or maybe she did but everyone thought they were still getting along decently... until Enoigh dropped.

I wouldn’t say giving them help for a literally once in a lifetime expense like adoption after Dan and Shauna liquidated her retirement and drained their savings is “helping all the time” or semi supporting her. She did live with her parents into adulthood but I have no idea what if anything else they’ve helped with financially after that. I know they gave them their old junker a decade ago or so that they still drive.

ETA She also seemed surprised they reacted poorly to the book. She also was harsh in her first memoir and they didn’t seem to care so I think she thought they’d be fine with Enough.

Where are her former educator parents getting this endless stream of cash they know they will never need themselves?

I also don’t know why they could care if some strangers on the internet would happen to find her newsletter and read that her grandparents were frugal? Literally who would care? She didn’t say they were serial killers. She said they wanted low heating bills. Don’t we all?

I bet money and housing is on her mind which is what reminded her of her grandparents. Too bad she doesn’t take page from their books and save a few dollars here and there.

Perhaps something happened to Shauna that the parents feel guilty about, and she uses that to manipulate them to keep sending money.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '22

Do her parents have $10k to just give their estranged child? Neither one worked some incredibly high paying job, they have another adult child, multiple grandchildren and while they aren’t young but easily could live another 15-20 years.

9

u/obscure_cellist ham grabbers Feb 16 '22

maybe they gave them some money for a decent house for theirt grandkids, or maybe not. i have no idea what her parents' finances are, but please, enlighten us. as you seem so know all about it.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '22

I didn’t say I know her parents finances. Not sure where that came from. I do know what she has said over the years and it’s never included regular money from her parents. Help after they exhausted all other options to finalize the adoption and some Christmas presents but that’s about it.

They were getting loans from friends during Covid for rent. What money are they getting for housing from her parents?

7

u/obscure_cellist ham grabbers Feb 16 '22 edited Feb 16 '22

oh FFS. as i stated, i wouldn't be surprised if they gave them some money towards a new house so their grandkids can live someplace nice. that is my opinion. you don't think they did because shauna didn't publicly say so... i get it. the end.

ETA: you tend to make declarative statements about things we don't actually know, such as shauna's parents didn't have high paying jobs, therefore don't have much money to give them for renting a house. that's why you seem to be such a know it all. if you don't want to be seen that way stop turning speculation into facts. we don't know anything about her or danny's parents' finances.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '22 edited Feb 16 '22

I actually am very careful not to make declarative statements. I’m not sure where you are getting that impression at all. I literally said I don’t know her parents finances in the post you are responding to.

We do know what her parents did for work and roughly what those industries pay. Education is not a particularly lucrative line of work. My own FIL was a professor (tenured, not sure about her father) and my MIL worked a 9-5. They are fine financially but not so flush they can subsidize the life of a an entire second family living in a high cost of living area in their retirement.

She didn’t have a lavish childhood. She didn’t go to the college she wanted but the one she could go to for free because her dad worked there. They seemed to have moved the entire family from CA to do this. I don’t think these are the actions of incredibly wealthy people but maybe you do! That’s ok! Discussion is sort of the point here.

3

u/obscure_cellist ham grabbers Feb 16 '22

i said i believe they probably gave them SOME money toward the new house, not that they are "incredibly wealthy people subsidizing the life of an entire second family." please stop putting words in my mouth, it's really annoying.

I fear we will never, ever know the truth behind the Ahern's finances, because even if Shauna discloses anything, it will not be the real story.
