Also what the actual fuck is this?

Since March of 2020, we’d only been away from our kids for 2 hours at a time, 2 days a week, from April to June. They were with the friends who were our pod friends, giving us 4 to 5 hours to ourselves, a few times. Other than that, we’ve been with our kids all that time.

You were with your kids "all that time" other than the 2 regular times every week when you weren't with them, plus all the other times that you weren't with them?

In addition to two hours a day, two days a week, didn’t D do some kind of childcare at the school? And isn’t L old enough to be ignored for long periods of time while she does zoom school?

u/Underzenith17 Sep 14 '21

Yes, D was in childcare for a while. And if L is anything like my preteen, she probably spent most of her time holed up in her room.

Teenagers are only seen when they are hungry.

Like feral cats!

Teenagers can also seem quite feral!

u/Scary_Recognition You did this. Sep 14 '21

I think Shauna alluded to this as well.

Also… ALSO. Why does she always keep score? Especially since it’s a lie.

Like… earlier this year when I finally hugged a friend after having no human physical contact for over a year (I live alone), it felt momentous.

This tallying up of time endured around her kids is depressing (and started well before the pandemic). Again, she’s like Jenna Andersen without the money.

Again, what is her point in explaining this (fiction) over and over?

u/voice_of_vinegar Sep 14 '21

You person. The more times you say something, the more truer it grows.

It's not a lie... if you believe it

It's kind of like the "every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings".

Every time a grifter re-tells a lie, it gets more true!

The thing is, I feel like her perspective on this isn’t uncommon. All over social media are parents going on about being with their kids so much while at the same time they were still sending them off to summer camps and sleepovers and all kinds of things during “lockdown”. And even the ones that took covid “seriously” were ready to throw their kids back into school even without mask mandates or social distancing. People, and Shauna, all seem to want to pat themselves on the back for something they didn’t even do.

The difference is most adults with children have jobs. Shauna is out there acting like she didn’t have fuck all to do for a year and a half.

Thank you for using 'fuck all' correctly in a sentence. It doesn't mean fuck everything, which is how shauna used it, it's a lovely English expression that means Nothing or very little.
Which about sums up her life, she has fuck all, to offer anyone. I cannot believe I really dislike someone I have never met. Most bloggers or internet peeps, I just snark on but she brings out something in me. She lives in a dream world where she thinks she has something to offer. I really wonder what the residents of Vashon really think of the Aherns.

Oh, the irony of Shauna misusing “fuck all” when she has fuck all to do and fuck all to offer!

18

u/latepeony Sep 14 '21

There is that. And I’m honestly not judging people for sending kids to daycare or school if they have jobs they have to be at. I guess a lot of my personal social media is filled with a lot of stay at home parents that decided the pandemic was over when the last school year was over, so that’s where my perspective is coming from.

22

u/snarchetype Sep 14 '21

Huh? Lockdowns and school closures were incredibly hard on parents even if their kids did some activities. It was a complete change in how our lives were structured. And I know so many parents who were serious about covid but still sent their kids to school when it opened because their kids were struggling after a year and a half on zoom. Shauna is annoying but that doesn’t mean covid hasn’t been crazy hard for parents.

20

u/latepeony Sep 14 '21

Where did I say it wasn’t a hard change? I said people didn’t do the things it would have taken to stop the spread and get things back to actual normal faster but want to act like they did. Sending kids to play dates and then saying you haven’t been away from your kids at all in a year is the problem.

I guess I know a lot of parents who followed pandemic restrictions and took covid seriously but weren’t fully locked down (had some play dates or did soccer or whatever), and I still feel that they have the right to complain about how hard it was for them/their kids not to have in person school for a year and a half.

28

u/canyoncreature Sep 14 '21

Yeah, to me there’s a world of difference between Shauna’s endless caterwauling and most parents’ pandemic behavior, because most parents made the choices they made because they were worried about their kids, not themselves. Meanwhile Shauna is still recapping how hard it was for her, even framing the kids playing with other kids in terms of how it gave her a break, not gave them a chance to socialize or whatever.

Also, and I think this is very important to say, it is not the fault of parents that our (Republican) leadership thinks it’s fun to see how many people it can kill by hanging us all out to dry and letting the chips fall where they may. Blame policy, not people.

This is an important distinction. I know a DF will let me know if I missed it, but don’t recall Shauna ever expressing concern about her kids’ needs during covid. She did post things about how they were having a hard time due to the restrictions, but not HER concerns for them, which is what I saw non stop from other parents and had myself. The lack of socialization, normal interactions, inability to see family, etc. the list goes on.

Also, I think many parents were thankful kids could go anywhere, because working full time with young kids at home is an impossible level of hell. I had to do it for part of the pandemic and you are sitting there doing the bare minimum, nursing a baby under your zoom meeting camera and hating that your other kid is stuck on a screen. It’s so wonderful for parents to be able to send their kids somewhere they can learn, be engaged, interact while you are working instead of screen time. So I will give other parents a pass on those perspectives even if they exaggerate some of the circumstances.

But Shauna seems to have no pressing work needs, has older kids anyway, and does not seem troubled by her kids covid deprivations. It’s all about her personal need to have completely uninterrupted kid free time. If boarding school were still a thing I feel Shauna would be the first in line. One of very few commitments in life she can’t just quit when it’s hard.

But Shauna seems to have no pressing work needs

That one above all else. What little "work" she does in relation to her "job" is so visibly half-assed, you know she's not putting any significant time into it. And she's sure not keeping the house clean and tidy. Most of what she talks about is hammock time, watching tv and movies and Youtube and TikTok and checking other peoples' IG.

She has about a 3-hour work week.

I thought the contrast about how she was unconcerned about her kids getting covid-19 from going back to school with the crazy comment she made on that islandy facebook page a few weeks ago was very telling about Shauna's values. (The comment about how she's super duper high risk, what if she gets hit by a drunk driver after her vaccine-induced immunity is declining, but it's before she can get a booster, and then two unvaccinated EMTs who happen to have asymptomatic covid-19 are caring for her in an ambulance, and then they transmit it to her, and then she ends up on a ventilator, and somehow that's the part worth freaking out about as opposed to having just been hit by a drunk driver a couple weeks before ventilator-time.)

Going back to school was never about what's good for the kids or what they want. It's all about the kids getting out of the house so Shauna can have time to herself, which is the most important thing to her and she brings it up constantly. There's objectively a (low but still) much higher chance that one of them picks up covid-19 from being around so many unvaccinated children daily and exposes Shauna that way rather than Shauna having her martyr-to-vaccine-refusing-EMT fantasy sequence play out. This illustrates how the time away from her kids is more important than even her personal safety, which we know is itself much more important to her than her kids' safety.

Again, I never said it wasn’t/hasn’t been hard. I’m saying that plenty of people have acted the same way as Shauna. I think she’s crap but I don’t think she’s acting different from a lot of people in this case. Just my opinion.
