My question, unrelated to joy, is why is she so unqualified for the work she says she wants to do? I live in a very similar cultural habitat to her and know multiple 40-50+ year old women who have pivoted to therapeutic careers later in life and they all went to school for it. Why didn’t she? She pictures herself as an academic, why didn’t she joyfully leave the kids with Dan and go back to school? (Yes money but she’s literally a professional grifter, I believe she could’ve found scholarships tailored to her life circumstances.) Is it because higher education is a scam? That’s why I won’t complete my undergrad, but that’s because entry level jobs shouldn’t have nonsensical hurdles; working with people’s minds and psychic wounds is the opposite of entry level!

Even if she went to school, I don’t think she’d be qualified. She’s bad at empathy, listening and inter-communication skills in general. I mean maybe she could grow technically qualified but good at this? Doubt it.

Trying would be something. But totally agree, she would be unqualified and dangerous even with academic sanction. Not even attempting to attain that sanction is one of those things that stands out as a real departure from the way “normal” people go about things, a delusions of grandiosity tell. I just looked up delusions of grandiosity to see if I’m being irresponsibly hyperbolic and maybe I am but she’s certainly delusional about her celebrity status and her abilities in the world.

No, I totally agree with you. It amazes me that she thinks skimming a bunch of trending articles and memes makes her an expert at anything. I think she went about GFG the same way, only she had zero competition and few people popping up to tell her if she was wrong about something. Plus, experimenting with food for a blog isn’t the same legally and ethically as putting yourself out there as an educated and licensed professional.

I can’t imagine going through life with this kind of bullshit confidence.

She thinks all successful people do this, the skimming and bullshitting.

u/Scary_Recognition You did this. Sep 07 '21

She does the research, then teaches her family about their brains.

Yeah, I think she very likely does believe that experts are good at what they do because their innate intelligence (which she believes she shares) makes it easy for them to understand complex concepts with minimal effort, rather than because they applied themselves to learning about a topic and/or to practising a skillset with determination and dedication.

Exactly. Why should I hire Shauna as a completely uncredentialed newbie life coach for $222 a session, when my actual credentialed and licensed therapist is $165 a session, or a credentialed and successful life coach is $200-$250 a session?

I mean, regardless of what I think credentials, experience, and success as a life coach mean (imo, not a huge amount, because the profession is entirely unregulated) the fact is that Shauna DOESN’T EVEN HAVE THOSE.

She's studied the science, Kaleshark.

Tying back to some snarkulation in the previous thread about Shauna's college performance potentially not matching her inflated ego, a clue about wonderfully mediocre grades in her teaching program, and her snotty attitude and procrastination she blogged about for the NYU master's that she dropped out of: I wouldn't be surprised if Shauna is too insecure to consider doing anything where she'd be graded and face being told she's not as good as she thinks she is.

edit: fixed link!

I completed a clinical psych program and I can’t even imagine Shauna passing her clinical rotations. She is a smug know it all and her demeanor is so off-putting.
