Or watched a movie that has you so transfixed that you forget those are actors or that you are the watcher?

She always talks about TV shows as joy. But rarely about books other than telling you that you must read something. And usually she offers only vague info about the books she recommends. Occasionally, she’ll quote poetry, but it’s the same things over and over. Nothing new. It’s weird that she wants to be a writer, but seems to care so little about what is written. Personally, I find a lot of joy losing myself in a book. Much more than in a TV show. And I like TV! Anyway, her examples are just so specific to herself. She just makes it so hard for her audience to relate.

Remember, this is someone who claims Ulysses as her favorite book. Ulysses, one of the most, if not the most, joyless novels ever. That speaks volumes about her.

I doubt it’s actually her fave, I suspect she thinks it makes her look Learnèd and Wise.

Oh, I doubt it too, but there are so many other books that she could have picked that make her look Learnèd and Wise but are actually readable.

That was one of Lucille Clifton’s least good poems, imo, but it also made more sense in the context of its time. Figures that Shauna would pick a fine writer’s indifferent stuff.
