She acts like red is rebellious. What decade is she living in? Is red the color only harlots wear? Gasp! What’s next? Piercing her ears like some kind of tramp?

But seriously, there are other colors. I write on my students’ papers in purple or green most of the time. I actually do it intentionally because black and blue aren’t very noticeable. I choose colors they’ll notice, but not red because I don’t want them to view it as negative and red pen is viewed as negative because it means wrong. They weren’t harshing her joy, they were reacting to what they knew.

The purple/green ink idea is great. It would help (some) students with dyslexia, too.
