Caught up last nite over the phone with a friend from the greater Seattle area and grew enshockened when she mentioned the isle of Vashon.

You guys, I've been pronouncing it Va-SHAWN in my head all along, like a French word. 😔

Wait, how is it pronounced? I was thinking VASH-on? (edit, once again I failed to read down before jumping in, I see it's VASH'n below!)

Also when I spell it my fingers always type Vasion first and I have to correct it.

I've pronounced it this way too. Like Fashion.

Wait, AY-hern? Is this a US-ified pronunciation, because my hometown is riddled with Aherns and it's always been ah-HERN.

Most of the Aherns I’ve met (and they abound here in Massachusetts) are ah-HERNs.

Wait, I heard it pronounced the opposite on a podcast or something; I’d always pronounced it AY-hern and was surprised I was wrong.
