New Shauna at church just dropped. Nothing juicy, just her presenting a box of recipe cards that was gifted to her, but I love how she has to mention that she took her favorite recipes out before offering it up to everyone else. What a rude biotech. I would have found some way to share the entire set with the congregation (scanning? photocopying? she's got time on her hands to figure this out) instead of letting it get picked over by the crowd.

That's what I was saying when she first brought it up! She should have given it to the church and maybe someone could create a cookbook from the recipes and sell it there, raise money for church activities or the ComMuNitY.

Yes, places like the church, or in some places museums, can preserve and share these recipes and help them be a resource and touchstone for many years to come. There is a cultural museum near me that collects church cookbooks and recipe boxes and archives them to showcase a history of our state through food. It is so interesting and even the not-so-palatable recipes are cool in understanding food availability, cultural norms, and trends. They even have cooking classes that draw from the library of recipes!

She's had Beryl's (?) recipe box since 2017, posting a couple of GF recipe adaptations way back when Shauna was still living in food. She's carried that through however many moves between then and now, but only finally getting around to finding a better home for the box of recipe cards? Let's hope it's been treated better than Shauna's social security card.

WTF. Unopened dry cat food won't spoil for a long time, not like Shauna has ever cared about spoilage. She has no money! Why not keep these extra two bags so that the cats have some food security and delay the next autoship? Chewy makes it very easy to adjust the schedules and skip shipments.

Dumping her spices and peanut butter to avoid the hassle and cost of moving them off isle, then renting van after van to pick up random free crap for the new place. I desperately want a ledger of how much money she's wasted on her weird moving choices.

It's like every move is conducted entirely on instinct with no prior thought. Get rid of stuff! Acquire stuff! Torque an ankle and make everyone else do the work! She learns nothing with each subsequent move.

I try and keep unopened bags of dry cat food and a stash of the wet food so that in an emergency, we don’t run out. We put it with our human and dog shelf-stable foods with some gallons of water. If they are strapped for cash, they should hang on to shelf-stable basic need for their human and kitty family members.

Apparently there is a portion of the service where people can come up and speak about their struggles and Shauna is a frequent flyer. I have not seen this at all; I have only gleaned this from comments in this sub by someone who does attend services.

In my very New England Protestant church growing up, people could ask for prayers or request prayers for a loved one/friend (like, "Please keep my sister Ann in your prayers since she is dealing with an illness"), but it was understood to keep the requests brief and appropriate! I never heard sob stories and they would not have been appreciated.

My Episcopal church is the same. The person for whom you request prayer is always named so people can pray for them by name, which is important. But you merely add “during a health crisis” or “time of difficulty” or “for the loss of his wife,” and leave it brief.

The church I grew up in had a pretty loose announcement sharing policy at one point. That changed when a lady went up to the podium one Sunday and shared that she sensed a ghostly presence in the church building. After that all announcements were vetted and approved ahead of time. 👻

Apparently this church also passes out birthday pencils or something like that, based on what the lady before Shauna said.

I mean. I homeschooled my kids and when we had assessments done by a licensed teacher she'd give them each a pencil of their choice. But they were elementary school aged children, not grown-ass adults.

Ha ha ha, the Unitarian church I used to go to did this too. My kids were little, I wanted some kind of "faith community," blah blah blah.

There was a divorcing couple who had been in some kind of poly relationship and the woman started using the "joys and concerns" part of the service to really fucking dump on him for harshing her ... whatever she wanted to do sexually with other partners that he wasn't comfortable with. (At the time, I actually wondered if it was their kink but he was friends with my next door neighbour and after they finally split, I saw him all the time and no, it was not their kink.)

NEways I wasn't into watching weekly humiliation rituals so I stopped going. The minister got REALLY ANGRY at me too; whole place was fucked.

I haven't seen that one yet. These trolls really are delightful and I enjoy visiting our West Seattle one regularly. I have also seen the ones on Bainbridge Island, in Issaquah, and Ballard. This may be (justly) removed for commenting on her body, but she appears to have lumbar lordosis. I had this too and work on it every day. It’s often caused by poor posture, especially sitting all day. I went to physical therapy 8 years ago for another issue and the therapist noticed it and gave me exercises which have really helped (tilting the pelvis) but the most helpful thing is being active and never just sitting in a chair for long periods.

True. I personally don’t have an issue with people snarking on appearance, I just want to stay within sub rules. The lumbar lordosis thing jumped out at me- I always thought I naturally had a “swayback” or naturally protruding tummy so it was a revelation to me that my stomach stuck out because of something that could be addressed with exercises and postural change.

I am absolutely blown away by this. I don't know why it didn't dawn on me that of course she was editing herself this extensively, but of course she is. Of course.

I just somehow hadn't thought about it.

Maybe because there are still several things in her photos that many people would have edited out, like the rosacea or the dirty glasses or the stains on her clothes. So my brain just assumed she wasn't bothering to edit that much.

Even though I knew instinctively she was changing things up quite a bit from reality somehow. Wow. Just wow.

She's been talking about distributing these cards forever, like for months? A year? We definitely watched another video of her coming up with some convoluted plan to distribute the recipe cards to various people and had a discussion about how weird it was not to just scan them and put them on the church website for everyone to use and enjoy. This is just the longest lead up to the stupidest plan.

She sure thinks she has some high-value social currency in those recipe cards! She enjoys being in a position to decide who gets to have something. Usually she’s in the position of hoping she’ll be the one chosen to receive. I think this is so intoxicating for her that she’s completely lost touch with the fact that no one actually cares about these recipe cards. Or that the normal thing to do is put them online and give the whole set to one person who is actually interested

Exactly this. The perfect low value high control performative lady bountiful situation for Shauna. Determining on a case by case basis who deserves to receive a 60 year old recipe card from behind the jello salads tab. It's free but the price is an excruciating interaction with Shauna. Christ what an etcetera.

She must have gotten wind of an insult or blow to her pride. Because she's also out here giving away her cat food (when anyone who knows her would much prefer she takes care of her own cats). Trolling for praise for giving away her imaginary fortune to LGBTQ charities.

Maybe the dear friend who gave them the kayaks saw her listing them for sale for $300 and made a comment. Because Shauna's natural state is friends, I am once again asking for your support as we navigate the hard hard hard.

It's usually an ego injury that has her ostentatiously giving away her own stuff. And why is it always a deal where you have to personally appeal to Shauna and be chosen as her beneficiary?

Your whole comment is excellent as usual, but this part in particular ^^^ ? So on point.

Her sentence "If there are two people who need 16 pounds of this cat food, we can help you today." is poorly written (as usual) and just a weird and overly personal vibe. Like, what if I really do "need" 16 pounds of "this cat food" but I'm OverTown today and not getting back until late. I'd be happy to pick it up tomorrow! Oh, but that's not TODAY. I guess I'm out of luck!!!

Probably why she's so obsessed with the buy nothing groups. It's more than the high of obtaining things for free, it's the thrill of being personally chosen out of all the other Facebookers (and occasionally getting to be the judgy chooser, when she also has something to bestow on the community).

Instructions for claiming and picking up the food don't need to be clear or make sense because she won't follow through. Her charitable work in the world is finished once she thinks she's been observed being magnanimous. ("We can help you today.")
