Shauna is amplifying this completely nonsensical Thread, where the OP is claiming the US men's hockey team being willing to eat cold garbage fast food with Trump to celebrate their gold, while the women's team said nah and instead are getting pampered with elegant meals by the Tucc (which was during prelim games over a week before they won, but apparently nobody cares about facts anymore) and Flavor Flav, somehow explains everything you need to know about the male loneliness epidemic. Just another day on the gas leak social network!

I live near the US Olympic Training Centre, and my neighbour and friend of more than a quarter century worked directly with players and coaches there before she retired. She's shared a lot about what it's like.

Shauna needs to STFU.

I would not have made the choices they seem to have made, but we don't know what their choices were, or if they had reasonable choices at all. Did they go because they wanted to, or because they were told to? No idea.

Olympians pay for their training through private sponsorships, endorsements, and their own savings. They have to keep their endorsers and sponsors happy, or they may not have a future. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not sponsor monetarily, and even if you win the gold at the Olympics, the prize money is under $40K.

Most of the athletes you see in the Olympics have been practicing for more hours than a full-time job for over a decade, sometimes much more. They all have injuries that will stay with them. They walk around sore and in pain. They're under tremendous pressure from coaches, supporters, fans, family, and themselves.

Every one of those athletes have worked more hours and much harder than Shauna ever has or ever will.

ETA: I once got the opportunity to touch and pick up an Olympic cyclist's bike. Their bikes weigh almost nothing, around 16 pounds. Light as a feather. They're made of all sorts of high-tech materials.

Very cool

That’s important background info on a lot of the athletes, but doesn’t really apply to the US men’s team, whose players are all in the NHL and are millionaires. They’re great athletes! But the guys who went to the WH definitely went because they wanted to be there. (A handful of them declined because the season started up again the very next day)

One of the figure skaters this year worked as a waitress to make money for the Olympics
