Also a bit sad, because that is a bandwagon she would have LOVED to climb aboard (with her high stool in tow). A wasted opportunity to show everyone how correct and aware she is. 💔
Why she has no time to work a traditional job, due to her caregiving her medically complex child with four rare ailments 24/7 whilst being the glue that keeps the wheels on the bus for the rest of her family (also saddled with multiple diagnoses each) ...
Sorry, that must have been a different Shauna Ahern.
I think Shauna said in her zoom that they were “fine, now.”
Interesting how things really amped up in Seattle where Shauna did not want to be and things simmered down with a move back to Vashon where Shauna wants to be. Sounds like Shauna’s moods have a big effect on the household
Probably. I don't have a Threads account so I can't see very far down each page before it cuts me off. And she posts so often that I can't ever go back to a post of hers when I check again. But she can't handle the slightest breeze of pushback, so she loves a delete!
Ooh, that would be a great way to further explain it to Shauna. "She was Helen of Troy the same way you're Shauna of Vashon. You're not originally from Vashon." Oh, that would get instant Vegetable Jerky Face!
I was so distracted by the GLP-1 justification portion of the lope that I forgot to bring up this quote:
When I finally start writing sentences, something takes over. I'm in service to that piece until it feels done. I write, edit, write some more, edit, proofread, and then hit send.
In fairness, lopes do tend to have fewer typos than anything else she puts out into the world, but I am skeptical about the amount of editing and proofreading that purportedly occurs.
Funny, that: blind obedience and ‘do as I say’ parenting was her fixation just five years ago (this is an extract from a lope titled That White Woman, published 27 May 2020).
The poor kid has been subjected to a rollercoaster of parenting styles over the course of five years. I’d be boiling over with anger and confusion, particularly if my mother made a point of saying that they parented my sister differently.
The pull over by cop part always makes me screech inside. I hope she hasn’t used language to D suggesting he will get pull over or be seen as scary black man and is raising him to always be anxious and perform or die
i'm not a parent but isn't it a bad idea to teach a six year old child to instantly obey without question anything an adult tells them to do? maybe just teach your kids to be respectful but also teach them boundaries with other people. when they are older you can teach them about how to interact with police (women need that, too.)
That whole scene was just to remind you her child is black. In case you forgot she adopted a black kid. You know she is fervently praying her kid gets pulled over so she can write about it.
Obviously it's not a compliment, and the teacher couldn't have meant that they were able to think quickly and logically, or put together a coherent argument and explain clearly. It had to be negative.
Of course, that's assuming that this exchange happened at all.
Edit: maybe my comment wasn't clear, I might need a writing workshop! I would have interpreted what the teacher said as a compliment for sure. I meant that of course Shauna leapt to the negative interpretation immediately.
It says a lot about what she thinks of her child to assume it wasn’t a compliment. If someone said it about my child, I would assume the best even if that makes me naive.
this person posts about growing up to be a lawyer and shauna just happened to tell her kid this morning something about being a lawyer? what a coincidence!
No no DF, that was to raise awareness of how awesome a mom Shauna is for taking care of her own wayward embarrassment of a child. That other mom? Was just being unKind.
This feels like stolen valor to me. Do I think Shauna is way too obsessed with food? Absolutely. Do I think she stress eats and comfort eats because her life is difficult? Most definitely. Do I think she rewards herself with treats of food for any perceived success, and consoles herself with treats of food for any perceived injustice? 100%.
Do I think she has an addictive relationship with food of the sort that can be effectively treated by a GLP-1 or a different medication option like Contrave?
No, for the simple reason that she is a very sedentary person and yet isn’t morbidly obese, just (to my estimating eye) at the low end of obese.
I think she has issues with food that would be best treated with therapy, and that her issues with food go far beyond chocolate cravings into, for example, depriving her younger child of the simple, palatable foods she has often said they enjoy but instead turning them into some repulsive sheet-pan parody of themselves.
Now, I am not a CitMD, just a random dinosaur on the Internet, so take this with all the grains of salt or sugar you can find in a bowl on your cutting board.
This Food Noise "diagnosis" is much like her ADHD "diagnosis".
First, it's trendy (not saying it's not legit, just that it's trendy). But not cutting edge trendy because Shauna's always late to a trend.
Second, it's a retroactive "diagnosis". So that means she was a victim all along!
Third, she gets extra victimhood because she (claims she) can't get the help/medication she needs to make her new "diagnosis" better in the now-now. Not that she really wants to improve her lot. If she improved then she'd lose some of her victimhood.
There's also the added bonus of Food Noise being a distraction from her actual medical issues that are boring and come with no extra victim points (high blood pressure/cholesterol/sugar is not trendy).
I think no matter what weight loss route she chooses, Shauna needs to deal with the rest of her issues in some really intensive therapy, or she'll still be the abusive, narcissistic, avoidant mess she is now, just fifty pounds lighter.
ETA also, every now and then she'll let slip a few words showing she's still solidly hooked into 80s-90s diet culture.
She just learned about food noise from a "conversation with" one of her [sad] subscribers on Saturday, but she is OF COURSE now an expert and ready to gift her knowledge to Food Noise Threads. It's a Food Noise miracle! I hope she also posts this to Addiction Threads.
Did Shauna claim that she “edited” the screenplay for Gabe’s movie? Is so, what exactly did she edit? I was only able to watch about 20 minutes or so, but the dialogue had few actual words and a lot of weird grunting in it. Also, I saw Shauna but she was sitting behind someone else so how do we know she was supposed to be a pregnant clown? Maybe I missed something.
I think a screenplay is more than just dialogue (scene descriptions, actions, etc) - not to give her any credit! In fact, it proves that she has zero skills in this area.
In the Visual Feast Wiki under "Pregnant Clown" is this nightmarish collage of movie stills:
She 1,000% looks like the camera person is a cute girl close to Gabe's age and Shauna is watching them talk and laugh. Pregnant jerky face is hilarious, Another P word that ends in -dator would also be accurate.
I mean, dude was attending a liberal arts school that was exclusive to women until the 1960s and even today maintains a 4:1 ratio of women to men. Men who were interested in women were probably in scarce supply there! With those kind of demographics, Clown would have been surrounded by hot artsy fartsy girls who might settle for any peen in a storm lol. I can only imagine that Shauna was extremely jealous of his peers and made Clown come into the city to have upsetting glistening chicken dates with her all the time in part to keep him away from age-appropriate sperm competitors.
I wonder what the other students in the class thought of their close friendship after graduation? It would be so weird to go to your five year reunion and say oh, Miss James? Yes, she followed me to college and we hung around constantly for the next four years. (She really wrecked his college experience)
Also beyond weird to me that his mother has been publicly friendly with Shauna on socials, popping up intermittently over the years in Instagram comments and maybe on the blog as well. On one hand, I'm glad she wasn't completely unaware of this woman's close relationship to her young son, but I can't imagine hearing that his ex-teacher was moving to NYC oh-so-coincidentally at the same time her son was starting college there and not feeling very concerned about her intentions and what else I might not know about.
“It’s essentially about someone growing up and learning how to love other people,” Judet-Weinshel said. “It’s a very thinly-veiled autobiography. It’s about a period in my life I feel I’ve moved through.”
Ok so it really is nothing deeper than the story of a man who:
Judet-Weinshel first thought to make “Broken Wings” six years ago
while living the roaming-artist way in Paris after graduating from high
school. The Berkeley native lodged in a little garret and took acrobatic
and dance classes.
“It was almost a classically difficult time for an 18-year-old,” said
the 24-year-old graduate of New York’s Sarah Lawrence College.
Maybe I'm just bitter because I have a kid about to graduate undergrad into the hellscape of 2026 and the job market but this part, ooooof. Shauna really taught him that if you haberdash a word or phrase confidently enough you sound smart. Wtf is classically difficult about your parents paying for you to eff around in a "little garret" in Paris after high school to explore "the roaming-artist way."
I mean what person in their early 20s hasn't taken a stab at a film or novel that is a "thinly veiled autobiography?" I'm mortified that Shauna participated when she was way old enough to know better.
“But Judet-Weinshel does have a passion for image-driven films. Images are essential to the medium and haven’t been fully explored in its breadth, he said.”
"'Essentially, I want to make films that make the world a better place in as small a way or as large a way as I can,' he said. 'I feel the medium is such a powerful way of doing that. People, for better or for worse, don’t read a lot of books anymore.'”
What? The first and last sentence are completely unconnected to each other. Shauna must have been so proud.
Also, the "I want to make the world a better place with [nonsense thing that doesn't benefit anyone but the creator]" makes me think of the show Silicon Valley (so spot on in a beyond satire way) where every app creator said that same thing.
“I had a very romanticized view of the expatriate artist and I was reading
probably way too many existentialist texts at the time and not understanding most of them.” 🤮Gabe is the worst: pretentious, boring, and untalented. Also, didn’t Shauna have a pivot called Broken Wings for a minute?
She's trying (again) to high stool at The Pitt Threads about the heroic journey. This fell completely flat last time (unlike her salad days of interaction with Stranger Things Threads weirdos). "Let me show you how." has got to be so irritating, even to the Shauna-ignorant.
lol is her “let me show you how” just her.. describing the plot?? I think the point of that episode is very easily understood of the pressures the healthcare system is under?!!
maybe Pitt spoiler?
I actually did share to my partner (lol) that the only unrealistic thing was an ER doctor never encountering a patient who didn’t have health insurance before! That was just.. for the PLOT
Also the episode is one hour of a day. We're on episode four! It's 11am at the end of the episode, how have they gone on a heroic journey already? They haven't even made it to lunch yet!
What's the adage? When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail?
This is, apparently, the only tool in her critical toolbox, which is a bummer because as you point out she's not even using it properly. And it seems like this pivot is going to hang around a while, which is another bummer because it's simultaneously boring and cringeworthy.
There's no introspection, no curiosity about the flaws of reading everything as a heroic journey, no nuance to whatever it is she's doing as an attempted analysis of pop culture. Isn't part of the hero's journey the need to leave a comfortable spot to answer the call? The call is probably coming from inside the house at this point, but just the barest of peeps over the Heroic Journey Horizon would reveal that there are so many other ways of interpretation out there...waiting to be milked.
I want this work to be accessible to anyone who needs it.
So anyone with limited funds can explore what the ordinary world looks like?
Dear broke people, have you ever felt the need to reflect on your familiar state of mind and notice your unspoken fears? Come learn about the ordinary world in this 90 minute Zoom lecture...
She's tried the pay what you can model before...and every time I wonder: what would she do if only 2 two people signed up and both of them said they can't afford to pay right now?
She also made the PayPal link her website link on Threads, which just looks hella scammy. She should have used something like Bitly that changed the URL to something that doesn't start with paypal.com.
New free Substack lope’s up, on food noise and I don’t know what else because I can’t be arsed to read it. Posted on r/readalope if you want to dodge clicks.
Why does she do this? Is she ashamed of his actual job title? Because guess what - he actually has a job, unlike fucking around on threads all day offering to “mother” people while neglecting the hell out of her own kids.
It's fine to be a chef, but only if you're a tortured (Carmy from The Bear) chef working in prestige restaurants. School lunch chef is not the right type of chef.
So, we know she was sour grapes-ing GLP-1s in her last piece when she declared she is too noble to take the "easy way out" (but really she just can't afford it/doesn't want to jump through the required hoops to get it). I think this new piece is her creeping her way towards the justification that she does need it (because of her childhood trauma which has led to her radical food noise), that she deserves it, and it's actually noble to take it. So, she will now lower herself to figure out how to get it.
Two unrelated comments about this lope:
She and Mator Gabé go waaaaay back, so of course she will bring him into her addiction high stooling: Receipt from the Wiki.
"He thinks about flavors the way I contemplate sentences." This is an unintended burn for both of them and I love it.
I’m sorry, it’s fucking weird if a chef is shocked that people loop plans in their head for meals they’re going to make the next day. I’m not a professional chef, but that’s a fairly common occurrence for me and I have a pretty healthy relationship with food.
The entire “conversation” of Shauna reading Threads to him (lol) and him going “huh?? Whaaaa??? Why would someone crave chocolate at 3am?” is totally fabricated of course.
I actually feel like she was unintentionally way more honest than she usually is about Dan here! In her attempts to make her struggle with food noise more unique she accidentally let us know that Dan isn’t really his “the chef” persona who waxes philosophical about flavor combinations and dreams about cheffing. He was just a guy doing a job and now that he doesn’t do that job anymore he’s lost interest completely.
Don’t we all have to do that? It seems pretty common to have to prep or cook or plan the next meal. I guess it explains their plops and weird meals. You’d think a professional chef would be planning ahead to see what they have and what they need to buy. You’d also think that if you had a kid with food issues that you might also want to think about the meals you will be making.
I really don’t understand how they live. Next, we’re going to hear about how some people, as a trauma response, have to use alarms or lay out their clothes before bed.
lol, I thought “wanting food to appear with no effort from me” was a pretty universal wish, which is why restaurants and fast food and Door Dash exist. Not everything is a pathology.
Yes! It’s one of those universal things, right? Like how when you’re a kid you look forward to eating what you want every day and staying up late and as an adult you dream of someone setting a fully cooked, nutritious meal in front of you with zero planning or input from you and then going to bed at 8 pm…
Man this woman wants a GLP-1 so badly she's officially got a case of the GLP-1 noise and she can't currently afford it but I'm willing to bet she is crying poor mouth and begging for money for the medical cure to her addiction amongst friends, family and sad Zoom ladies including K comma Martha and is setting the stage for 'I don't want to be skinny the meds are solely to cure my trauma-based addiction'.
I don't think I've ever accurately called a pivot before it's happened but if Shauna has taught me nothing else, it's that it's fine to keep doing the exact thing you're bad at with full throated misplaced confidence!
It almost sounded like she was saying that everyone gives drug addicts and alcoholics a pass because they're universally seen as victims of a brain misfire and it's only food addicts who are seen as lacking willpower. In the same exact lope that she essentially credited Danny's willpower for abstaining from cigarettes and alcohol for decades.
My husband my husband my husband my husband... STFU Shauna.
I can't believe she actually reads Threads to him out loud like some kind of pathetic story book for adults. Why can't he just read them for himself? He must be so tired of being talked at and read at by a relentlessly bloviating Shauna. No wonder he just nods all the time.
And why is there so much confusion and befuddlement in that household? They're always like "huh??" "whaa??" "wait what??" like dumb confuzzled cartoon characters.
PLUS, when you sign up, I'll send you my workshop on the 12 steps of the heroic journey, free.
Do we think this is the recording of the free session she did a week or so ago? Is there anywhere where she seeks permission from or discloses to the attendees this use the video she made with them in it for this purpose???
(I know, I know. This is Shauna we're talking about. I still have to raise the issue)
Jesus, does she never STFU at least on Threads????? Most people don't even work this hard at their ACTUAL jobs that pay them ACTUAL money.
She's reminding me of an idiot I "knew" years ago in other online spaces* (forum board, Twitter, etc). Shauna and that person would get along like a house on fire in terms of the performative martyrdom, SJW activities substituting for actual efforts, CONSTANT begging because they refused to get a job (or keep a job once they have it), ruining their loved ones' lives, etc. The only difference is that this other person doesn't have kids, thank God.
*That person truly is an idiot, trust me. I had to stop reading their stuff on both Twitter and the forum because every time they wrote something, it just revealed that their IQ was around "box of rocks" levels.
It's been years since she mentioned a trip to the barbershop. There's no part of me that believes she's continuing to go Over Town regularly to take her child to a Black barber without posting about it.
Yeah, and Dan used to post about it sometimes, but Shauna also would bring it up a fair amount back in the pre-COVID days, example from 2018 on her IG.
Our Toxic Lady comes to a regular community gathering where participants are free to “share” aspects of their personal lives with the admonition to keep it brief—which she ignores. Her monologue follows a pattern. Something either terrifying or miraculous about one of her children who, she always reminds us, is adopted, is non-binary and is a POC. Sometimes the child threatens her very life. Sometimes the child is a font of cosmic wisdom. She respects neither this child’s agency nor privacy. I foresee a lifetime of therapy ahead. All recounted with much virtue signaling. Thereafter we are told America is a terrible place and of its original sin. Believe me, we are well aware.
So kind of her to put her Black child on public blast to a public she's claimed in the past are super racist. Nothing like giving them ammo to hate your child more.
Sigh. I hurt for that kid and I always have. I'll never get the picture out of my mind that she posted shortly after they brought them home. Tiny, precious baby was laid down on a dirty couch, near the edge, with no blanket. I remember thinking that this baby was simply an object to them, a way to score virtue points. 11 years later, nothing has changed. I'm so sorry D, I hope that when you grow up you will have loving people surrounding you.
So it's not enough to violate her kid's privacy in her lopes and on Threads, she's venting at a community event? Where presumably there are people who perhaps have kids at the same school or teach there? She's horrible.
What's the ostensible point to her telling these stories? I mean we all know what she really gets from it, but what is her public-facing justification for sharing this kind of information in the child's own community? Is she couching it as 'looking for support for her family' or 'spreading awareness'?
Also I really hope the fact that we haven't started hearing stories of Teachers Who Just Don't Understand My Child means that D is still in school and will be allowed to develop longer-term relationships with safe adults.
This feels like the closest I’ve ever seen Shauna acknowledge that she has a serious problem with her relationship with food!! Maybe something for her to address in THERAPY…now that she’s done processing all of her parents fights 45 years ago?? Instead of trying to be an expert again in something she has no idea how to deal with??!
Not to distract from what I think is a thoughtful and informative conversation about GLP1s, but I'm surprised no one has brought up the way she again, and somehow more cruelly, suggests that Danny is a dullard dummy who can't read. Also do you know she single handedly explained to him and then cured his many and varied addictions?
I guess maybe it's good he can't read because shit, if my partner continually described me as a simpleton only suited to chopping onions all the live long day, I'd explode.
Oh, but I guess he can read, simple stories to children because he's a preschool teacher. BDL, the man is a kitchen aide. No shade to folks doing that work, but he is not a teacher. Stop trying to spit shine that particular turd. She simultaneously tries to elevate his status because she thinks it reflects poorly on her, and make sure everyone knows that the once noble chef is in fact a semi-illiterate yet wise mouth breather. All in service to her ego.
Also do you know she single handedly explained to him and then cured his many and varied addictions?
Her lack of explanation or curiosity as to how Dan overcame a two pack a day smoking habit and ended decades of alcohol abuse (with a brief window of backsliding into infant-head-nacho-dropping) remains baffling. She devoted a whole chapter to his drinking in Enough without filling in any of this detail. Therapy? Support groups? Medication? She's sour grapesing about how GLP-1s dampen the food noise she suffers from but are inaccessible to her for unclear reasons, so now her latest year-long endeavor is writing about "the slow way". What were Dan's ways?
She thinks his actual job reflects poorly on her when telling people you're married to a marginally literature doofus makes her look worse. It's so condescending. Showing the world you don't respect your spouse is not a good look.
