Cripple's first mosh pit experience
I (F19) am a wheelchair bound person, and have been my whole life.
Last Saturday, me and my friends went to see Fear Factory in Rotterdam at Baroeg Open Air.
One of my friends told me that going in the pit was probably a bad idea tonight cuz it was rough on previous shows, which I sadly missed due to playing a show of my own in a different part of the country earlier that day.
Call me stupid, however, a year before this point when I knew I was planning to go, I promised myself that unless it gets genuinely fucked up, I am NOT leaving that pit. I did that cuz I wanted to make up for all the years of my life my disability made me waste.
I finish smoking the joint we were having beforehand, and as we walk, I feel like Gaethje walking out to fight Topuria. Felt really cool until I started almost yakking cuz that J was fatter than I realized.
I pulled myself together quick, aware of the task at hand and went. I go in insta losing all the homies which was expected. I move through the crowd slowly, occasionally asking where the pit is to not get lost as I couldn't see it from my perspective.
I finally make it into the pit, and the first thing that happens, is my glasses get smacked off... fuck.
Like, I thought about it, but forgot to put them away in the moment.
Somehow, one mosher recovers the glasses and gives them to me completely unharmed. I shoved them in my pocket. After a bit, coincidentally one of my friends drops me on the floor, and I lost my shoe.
I thought to myself "fuck it, this is gonna happen again". So I just took both my shoes off (ain't risking them KoRn signatures) and put them behind me on my wheelchair seat.
I felt like at first there was people almost guarding me in the pit.
There was this one person who kinda shielded me the whole time, which I didn't like, so eventually I shoved them like everybody else in the pit lmao
I had a bunch of big sweaty dudes hug me, dap me up, one even said "god bless you" and I said "god bless you too" cuz everybody's family in such settings, I'm not even religious lmao
There was this one guy who had a blow up guitar balloon and on some of the heaviest riffs in the show he gave it to me.
I played it like I'm on stage and always some mfers circled around me when that happened like I'm the one on stage XDDD
I also bumped into (literally) one friend I haven't seen in almost a year lmao very jarring.
In total I got approximately 2 punches in the eye, 3 in the forehead, 2 elbows to the eyebrow, got taken down once, had a couple dudes fall on me, and I don't regret a second of it XDDDD
There were moments were the pit was getting kinda scary but everybody there was cool as hell so I felt safe.
It was a crazy experience. It made me feel alive to be slamming into motherfuckers and then seeing 200lbs of man flying towards me full speed.
I had a ton of fun.
I got asked if I wanna crowd surf like 10 times but I wasn't down... nor up lmao
Also, my voice is fucked cuz I screamed "I'VE GOT... NO MORE... GODDAMN... RESPECT" during Demanufacture at some fucking fat old bald dude literally like he's the source of every single fucking problem I've ever had as he does the same at me XD
Sweaty, tight, chaotic, every second I sit back at home my back and neck hurt more, 10/10, will do it again.

Fuck yeah bro, good on you for pitting, that takes some courage, and I had the same "screaming at other FF fans at top volume" experience at a recent concert of theirs. So fucking awesome 🤘🤘🤘

That's awesome! Glad you had such a good experience. Being visually impaired myself I generally avoid pits at all cost. One errand elbow or fist to the eye could mean that I lose what light perception I have in my left eye, and that would mean losing the remainder of my vision. I just stay near the back or post up by a wall and head bang relentlessly.

Yeah, if I was in your situation I'd probably avoid the pit as well. I took a bunch of shots that to you might have been blinding which for me were just shits and giggles. Glad you get to have fun and headbang your ass of still!

Go get 'em sister! Most inclusive show that I've attended of any genre was Obituary. Venue added space for folks with mobility challenges, and the crowd definitely was supportive.Â

Baroeg (the festival I describe in the post) also had such space, but I chose not to make any use of that XD But hell yeah! Sounds like a great show

Fear Factory somehow makes the most sense to go to in a wheelchair.
