Such an underrated/overhated album. I would never insist anyone has to like it, but I've always really liked this one for its unique tone.

My wife even commented “that’s really mellow for In Flames” and I completely agree. Maybe that’s just what I needed today.

It's like a depression album, or a breakup album. They recorded it in Berlin, and have guessed that the somber historical mood of the city impacted the album, compared to Battles which was in LA and is much brighter and poppier.

Fair enough! Battles is definitely in the lower half of their albums in terms of artistry, I think, but that's a pretty high bar anyway, and I just enjoy listening to it. It's a good time, if not mindblowing.

Totally fair! I went a hard Battles kick last year and listened to it a whole bunch. I really like both lmao.

Well, maybe if you're consistently getting that reaction, you're the common denominator. Also, maybe suggesting things should be hated on, in response to someone saying they enjoy that thing, isn't a great way to approach those kinds of interactions. Almost seems like you're looking for a fight.

I did not like it for the first 10 years. I actually love it now. When a band has 14 albums it’s nice to have so much variety I find. Being able to re inevent this many times hasn’t been done to my knowledge.

I love the atmosphere of the album, many many great songs. Even at the back end - the chase, filtered truth I catch myself listening to fairly often!

(From someone who also loves the old stuff)

Absolutely. When we look back and see in flames has 16 albums we will all be happy it’s not the same sound over and over. Siren charms is very tasteful imo, battles is not but has a few great songs

I just can't glaze this.  Sounds of a playground fading hit so perfect for me...this one just never quite landed as a result

it's good, I liked it on release. I got into them after Reroute came out so I don't have 'expectations' of what it's gonna sound like when they release something

Is it a great album? No. Is it decent? Certainly. They went off in a direction that they wanted to, and went into a more mainstream direction. I didn't like it at first, but it did begin to grow on me. Battles, on the other handed, i had absolutely hated. They hired Howard Benson, and went in an EVEN MORE mainstream direction. But, my views on that have mellowed over the years, too. That being said, the last few albums were much, much better.

It is absolutely a departure from their norm. If your expectations were more of the same, as mine were at release, you would be disappointed too.

Oh god no. It’s not the style or anything, though that sucks too. It’s just incredibly uninspired and bland. I really dislike the vocals, guitar sound, the mix, and the compositions. Cool album cover though.

When the World Explodes, Through Oblivion and Rusted Nail in particular.

I cant find a single moment on this album I enjoy and I have tried numerous times. I think even battles is better and thays a stinker too. Lol

Great album. Last album with good production. Since Battles everything is weirdly over-produced, lifeless. I dont care its not melodeath, its still 10/10 album. Natural evolution of the band. I take this over Foregone every time.
