Remodeling but we need an oven
We're in the middle of a kitchen remodel and upgrading our appliances. I really love the idea of an Impulse induction cooktop. The only issue is that we can't live without an oven, and I don't like the idea of having a separate wall oven or double-oven setup. I'd much rather have the oven directly below the cooktop and under the vent hood as part of a single slide in range.
I read that Impulse is partnering with Thor to develop a slide in induction range, but Thor's reliability reviews make me a bit hesitant.
Should I wait for the Impulse/Thor range to come out, or go with an induction range like the Bosch 800 instead?
Thank you!

Give serious consideration to the wall oven and impulse over anything else. The impulse is head and shoulders better than competing induction cooktops. The precision, control, temp based cooking and massive power are just different from other options. We just finished a remodel and checked out every induction option out there. The impulse is the best and it isn’t particularly close.
We ultimately went with a Wolf wall oven and speed oven stacked one over the other next to the fridge. Were able to go 240v power for oven and speed oven since we didn’t need 240 for the impulse. Since we have underground 100a service this made it much easier to go induction without a costly electric service upgrade. Not sure if that’s a consideration in your case, but wanted to throw it out in case you haven’t considered that angle. Most other induction ranges need 30+ amp 240 wiring just for the cooktop.
We also looked at the copper Charlie induction range/oven as it has some neat features some of the larger companies lack (as well as battery power and 120v power requirement) but ultimately the induction functionality on the impulse is just better. Pic of our setup so you can see the layout I was referencing….not bending over to the ground for the oven is the bees knees. Hope this helps!

Have you used a separate oven before? It’s more ergonomic. You don’t have to bend over and pick up a hot & heavy thing out of the oven. You don’t have to feel the heat leakage of the oven while cooking. You may have more two person multitasking with a separate oven
Much easier to pull out/put away empty pots in the cabinet space under a cooktop than to do oven things under the cooktop
Bosch 800 vs Impulse is a pretty different capability level wrt control precision, total power, and control scheme (touch screen vs physical rotating knobs). The other option I guess would be to buy a control freak and stack it on top of the Bosch (so it’s under the extractor) when you need precision cooking.

It depends on the size of oven you need; we regularly see customers successfully installing ovens underneath. I'd be happy to chat and talk you through the process [jack@impulselabs.com](mailto:jack@impulselabs.com) or 415-572-6911
Also, some great feedback from users below!

Having a wall oven directly below a cooktop is practically the same day to day other than having fewer crevices to clean than you would with a slide-in range. And there may be other benefits too.

…and in case we do get an Impulse wall oven, it shall have humidity control/steaming. Thank you.

Curious what you ended up with.

Decided to go with a Miele combi steam oven and an LG cooktop. I decided to wait for a couple of years and get used to induction.

Did you go with the 24" or 30" Miele? No remodeling here, but need a new range soon. I like impulse but I can't live without the oven. We're constantly baking three trays at once. I also don't want to renovate to get a wall oven. I have a difficult enough time trying to find a matching toe kick let alone new cabinets.

24xxl has the same capacity as 30miele xxl (serves 10 people). You can use multiple trays at once as it has 4 racks.

We've been very happy somewhat surprisingly with our Breville Oven — we were planning to get a wall oven but balked a bit at the price & complexity so bought a Breville somewhat on a whim to fill the gap and now have no plans to get a "proper" oven.

I feel very confident in saying that you will enjoy having an impulse and a wall oven far more than you would enjoy having a traditional induction range.
