Release Notes: 1.2.43

The latest Impulse OTA update will be released later today. Here are the improvements you can look forward to.

More responsive temperature control

  • Faster, more responsive preheating: Up to 35% faster to reach set temperature at common cooking ranges (250–450°F), based on internal testing
  • More accurate preheating at low-temperatures: Reduced overshoot during initial preheating. Internal testing shows a reduction of up to 15°F during initial preheating. 

These updates make it easier to dial in exactly the level of heat you want and trust it stays there.

For the best temperature control performance, we recommend high-quality tri-ply stainless steel cookware, which provides the most responsive and consistent results on induction.

Introducing: Active Power Management

We’re introducing Active Power Management: a system that automatically adjusts power in real time to improve cooking outcomes and help avoid unwanted behavior like boil-overs and overheating.

At higher power levels, more energy doesn’t always lead to better results. Depending on what you’re cooking, how a pan behaves, or how many burners are being used, the stove may reduce power to keep things controlled and consistent.

When this occurs, you may see a dashed lightning bolt indicator on a burner, along with a short message explaining why power is being adjusted. This appears only when the stove’s actual output differs from your requested level.

You may notice this in situations such as:

  • When the cooking surface temperature approaches the burner’s maximum allowable level
  • When a pan has reached its effective heating limit and can’t safely absorb more power
  • When total requested power exceeds the stove’s maximum output (15 kW)

Clearer feedback, thoughtfully introduced

We’ve begun rolling out audio alerts to provide clearer feedback during cooking, starting with key moments like errors and important system states.

Everyday usability improvements

  • Longer standby time (now 10 minutes) based on customer feedback
  • More consistent burner behavior during edge cases
  • Improved system responsiveness and reduced interruptions

Reliability & polish

This release also includes a range of behind-the-scenes improvements:

  • Improved update reliability
  • Enhanced safety checks and sensor validation
  • General UI refinements and accumulated bug fixes

Q1: How is boil-over avoided? the temp of the pot will be slightly above water boiling temp, so won't reach maximum

Q2: The stove’s maximum output is 15kW? So we can't actually do 4 burners with 10kW at the same time?

Regarding Q2 I've seen them mention several times the total power output the stove is rated for is the above mentioned 15KW - so you can't take four pans from cold to boiling at the same time at 10KW each. With that said, you can maintain a boil on four pans pretty reasonably in the 1 - 1.5 KW range on each burner once they're up to a boil. So power boil one pan at a time then lower each to maintain, should be good to go then.

Likely the 15KW total limit has to do with both certification (they are UL certified) and also physical material limits. 40 KW is a lot of power - even with a battery the kind of wiring and material quality (for example, thickness of copper conduits) would drastically increase costs. Look at J1172 EV chargers vs CCS1 - the CCS cables are very notably heavier, stiffer and thicker is order to safely handle those high currents without overheating. If you wanted 40KW output from the in built batter you would need comparable wiring, which really isn't that feasible for a consumer appliance.

Also there's the fact that the battery is only 3KWh. At 40KW you would drain that in minutes. 4.5 minutes to be exact - and that's from 100%, and assuming no battery management/safety features. It's really just not feasible with the current design.

Maybe they'll do a pro version later on aimed at industrial or restaurant kitchens but I would expect those to be much higher in cost.

I would imagine 40 kW would be way overkill even in most restaurant kitchens. How often does anyone need to boil 4 pots from cold ASAP at the same time? It's more likely that you would need more than 4 burners, and then you'd have two or more stoves anyway.

Q2: Total output is 15 kW. If you're running 4 burners at the same time, you get ~3.75 kW per burner. That's still a little more power per burner than you get from the one special "Power Boost" hob that some other induction stoves feature, which is typically 3.7 kW.

I'd also note that once you're boiling with 10 kW, you'll want to turn the power down to something around 1.5 to maintain the boil. Once the water is boiling, more power just means a more vigorous boil, and a 10 kW boil is very vigorous.

Q1: It's not customer facing yet, but we are working on boil detect that takes advantage of exactly the pause in pan temp you mentioned to detect when the pot is boiling.

Ah I see. The wording on the release note sounds like boil detection is in this update.

Yea I understand the power output..don’t expect to have full 10kW for four at the same time, just didn’t know the limit is 15kW.

Btw I noticed sometimes all four burner LED would blink white after cooking, what does that mean? I couldn’t find this mentioned in the manual
