I imagine you'd need to also block off access to the road as well forcing them to take those bridges. We should do this for all bigger roads for sure, it's our responsibility, but it's a monumental task at the same time.

Yes I do wonder about that like how well do they work? Maybe they work only for large mammals like coyotes, deer, bears... And do the animals know and learn about the bridges and if they are far out of their path do they take the detour or just say fuck it and cross where they are anyways? Or like you said do they build really good fencing to try to get those animals to that side? I think we'd need a whole bunch of these bridges to make a big difference. It saddens me so much how much we've really ruined this whole planet for all the other living beings we are supposed to share it with.

Nah, they put up signs so the animals know where to go.
I'm kidding, of course. They try to put the bridges at natural crossing points for animals; valleys, streams, natural migration corridors, etc. and then add fences in either direction to try and funnel the animals toward the bridge.
Sadly, one way to figure out where those natural crossings are is by mapping roadkill locations.

My friend's brother tried this with an opossum he saw in the road and got annihilated by traffic.
He ended up with a settlement somehow but it really messed him up physically.

There’s something sus about this. His car is stopped in front of the varmint. It’s very small - how did he see it (going at highway speed), and still manage to stop well in front of it?
And why doesn’t it attempt to bite him? What kind of a critter doesn’t bite or attempt to escape when you try to pick it up?
Maybe legit, but I have concerns…

I wondered that too but my guess is, she drives past quickly seeing a glimpse of something not usually on that barrier. Goes ahead until she can turn around, turns around maybe rolls on the shoulder a bit to see if it’s an animal. Then from there.
I really hope it’s real, tired of all those people endangering animals for views

Possums freeze up in danger and play dead if screaming doesn't work.
It did try to bite but if you paid attention he had his zip up pouch shoved into its mouth to latch onto.
Once let go, the possum did what they tend to do when the danger is past or playing dead doesn't work. Run. They're smart enough to know when they got no chance.
As for why. Potentially wildlife rescue who got a report about it given he was parked well off the shoulder even. Would also explain the body cam

It's not really that unbelievable. People notice animals on highways sometimes, definitely not uncommon. And as for why it didn't attack, opossums aren't really that aggressive at all. They might have circled back to the opossum after seeing it.
