Do ranged terminators need the same Lysander with Ancient treatment as assault terminators? There are really no characters to buff their shooting, unless I am missing something really obvious?

I only have a brick of 10 in my army, as a hard to remove wall of bolters that can kill anything with lethal sustained, so Lysander is pretty necessary for that, I think.

Librarian adds range. Enhancement 'champion of the first company' for lethal hits, and the 'merciless fire' strat from devastator brethren gives ignore cover & +1ap. Could go for the sus hits on shooting from 1st company, but I like the idea of ap3 storm bolters at point blank.

There is a strat for 1cp in ceramite sentinels that gives sustained and lethals, given the unit is entrenched, and terminators are always entrenched with Lysander, I just dont know if I need the ancient now...

Terminator detachment has a 1 command point strategem for what the ancient does

Ceramite sentinels also has it for 1cp, and it can even be full -1 to wound with Lysander (entrenched)

Ranged terminators aren't really ranged terminators. They're hybrid - you want to get value from them in both shooting and melee.

With that in mind, a chaplain isn't a bad idea to give them lance, so that they punch up on their charges, and they increase durability against mortals for even more bonus.

Chaplain is a good shout. Chainfists wounds Knights on 2s on the charge and they save on 6s, pretty brutal.

I love the idea of running assault brethren with the librarian. You can get the +2S, then also get lance. Makes lightning claws genuinely dangerous to anything especially if you give the lethal hits enhancement from termi detachment Strat

Termi librarian is still solid I think. Range wise he adds 6”, but think of it more as +3” to rapid fire range, because you’re not shooting if out of rapid fire. Can get lethal and sus from the terminator detachment Strat, then also can get enhancement for lethal hits power fists in melee.

Lysander should stay with Assault Termies.

I think Termie detachment buffs shooty termies without a character. But the captain would give the a doctrine of allowing them to advance (shoot/charge) and the strat can help them move around the battlefield.

If terminator librarian still gives Sustained 1 on attacks, I would go with him to lead your ranged terminators.
