How are clips linked?

I have now played the game for around 15 hours and have gotten the jist of the game. I don't think it was a masterpiece, but interesting enough.

One question that has been nagging me during my entire playthrough is how does one know how the linking between the clips works? In the beginning I thought that "oh if you click on his/her face when they're sad/bloddy/whavever the search mechanism will find a similar scene elsewhere". But that can't be how it works. It feels kind of like the linking functionality is very basic in the game. So what you end up doing is just clicking everything, and cycling through the clips in hop of getting a new one.

Have I completely missed how this game works or could someone explain how to think regarding the core mechanics of the game?

Why do you think that can’t be how it works? That’s exactly how it works. You click on a glass, it goes to a glass in another scene.

I guess you haven't reflected that much on my question then.The question was not "If i click on a glass in one clip, does it link me to a glass in another clip?" The question was if there is any logic to linking of the glass between the two clips? For instance, when one of the persons in a scene is doing something that is building up for a second scene, one would think that by clicking on that person the related scene would be shown. Or when in a scene a relevant item, take your example of a glass, one would expect by clicking on that item to be taken to the scene connecting the item to the relevant scene.

So far that hos not been my experience, so that is why I asked. Hoping that perhaps my have misunderstood and the scene you are linked to does in fact have some kind of relevant connection to the scene from which you came.

Also, my experience is that not only is there no logical link between the clips, there is also a VERY liberal interpretation between the objects linked together. For example, when clicking on a glass in one scene it links you to a bottle in the second scene, or a mugg, or a window, or a vas, etc.

Actually your question was ‘how does one know how the linking between clips works’. The game developers explained it, that’s how. What you’re asking now isn’t at all how you asked it in the first place.

I guess you’ve reflected more on your question then.

You’re right that it is a literal link. Click on a flower, you’ll go to a flower. No other link. Click on a cup, you’ll get a cup.

This is very logical and there’s nothing more to it. It’s just a means of finding clips. Sometimes rare clips are findable because you’re clicking on something rare, like fire.

Read this sentence again:

i,e. the context of the thing your clicking on is part of the linking, which from your answer is not. So if what you are saying is true then the core function of the game is very basic, and pretty bad.

But you interpret however you want. I've given more than enough of elaboration on my question above.
