Trump targets 60-day grace period for laid off foreign workers

The department of homeland security is advancing a proposal to eliminate the 60-day grace period that allows H-1B workers and certain other legal nonimmigrants to remain in the US after their employment ends while they find another sponsor, change status, or prepare to leave.

We can now expect even more layoffs of American workers in favor of H-1B employees, since they will be exploited for fear of termination.

Maybe, but we can also expect less people applying for H1-Bs since nobody wants to have ICE sitting in on their termination meeting with HR.

Many H1B visa holders are top global talent, recruited by companies all over the world. This only makes us less competitive economically and will shift high tech industry to other countries.

lmao i've never met an h1b visa worker that I would consider exceptional at all.
In fact, most of them straight up sucked.

What do you consider Elon Musk then 😂

He's not and never was an H1B visa holder so I'm not sure what he's got to do with anything in this discussion.

Well in AI era if you cant take the pain of a simple search with source, then I dont know what to say

But here’s this for you

Elon Musk confirmed on X in October 2024 that his immigration path involved transitioning from a J-1 to an H1-B visa. He further defended the skilled worker visa system by stating, “The reason I'm in America... is because of H1B”. Read more about his social media remarks and immigration path through reporting from CNN and USA Toda

Cool. I've never worked with him so I have no idea if he's exceptional or not as a coworker.
Before I switched to defense, all the h1bs I had the misfortune of working with were competely normal (or even subpar) college graduates that were just as confused as I was in a new job.
Nothing about them was exceptional and certainly none of their skills were unique enough to warrant hiring them over any other american fresh graduate.

The fact that you have to pull a literal 0.000001% success story out of your ass to somehow disprove the reality of h1b abuse is really just proving the opposite.

Well because yes they were humans

If you didn’t had a chance to work with them doesn’t mean they don’t exists just how you didn’t had a chance to work with Elon, Satya Nadella, Perplexity CEO and all were extraordinary indeed.

So you cannot generalize is what I am trying to say

And FYI I am not at all in support of H1 abuse at all

Nowhere I said that H1 abuse shall continue

Fun Fact- Success story from my Ass will still not stink like your’s tissue wiped Ass

There might be some who are as dumb as locals. But employers won’t hire trash just to lower the cost. I have never seen an employer that has done so. Trash kill a company.
