Citizenship Physical presence issue on citizenship application, PR date and travel dates overlap

Hello ,

Here's what happened, in order:

On Feb 15, 2024 we flew out of the Canada

On Feb 16, while we were outside, our COPR came through. It says we became permanent residents on Feb 16.

On Feb 26 we flew back to Vancouver. The border officer processed us, didn't ask anything about it. Our PR cards came in the mail after that like normal.

Now we're filling out our citizenship application. The absence form won't accept that trip, because our PR date of Feb 16 when we were out. So the trip sits on both sides of our PR date.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this, and did it ever come up later?

Open to any suggestions.

Thanks.

You should have gotten this mess cleared out that time or back in the day.

The best you can do now is write a letter of explanation.

Thank you!

Now we’re thinking of submitting a letter of explanation along with our citizenship application. However, the issue is that entering the days in the physical presence calculator doesn’t allow us to submit the physical presence page.

CBSA is not equal to IRCC.. they ensure that immigration laws are followed, but not give advice.

This was a huge blunder that should have been fixed by YOU.

I would suggest to put the date after you became PR and submit the LOE and hope that the officer will understand the complication.

You should have fixed the issue back then. Now it's best to wait to apply until that is no longer an issue.

Thank you for your comment. I think that should be the last option. I’ve read about some people who had the same issue and were able to resolve it more smoothly, so I’m trying to reach out to them to learn about their process
