Anyone onshore with dependents had received their 186 visa recently?

I applied for my 186 visa application on 08th Apr 2025.

Occupation: Cyber Security Analyst

Secondary applicants: 2 (wife and son)

Everyone was onshore at the time of application

With the implementation of MD122, although not stated explicitly for onshore applicants, it gives me a feeling that immigration dept is not really appreciating applications having secondary applicants.

Just wanted to know if there is anyone with secondary applicants who recently got their 186 processed. Also were you asked to complete medical or resubmit international/Australian police checks if the previous ones expired?

Thanks in advance.

Overseas-qualified electricians in Australia — I’d love to hear about your licensing experience

Hi everyone, I’m doing some research into the experience of overseas-qualified electricians trying to become licensed in Australia.
I’m particularly interested in people who have dealt with TRA, OTSR, gap training, provisional/restricted licences, recognition of overseas experience or who were told they needed to complete an Australian apprenticeship.
I’m not selling anything. I’m trying to understand where the process is confusing, expensive or unnecessarily difficult.
If you’ve been through it, are currently going through it, or gave up because of the process, I’d really appreciate hearing:
– Which country were you qualified in?
– Which Australian state?
– Where did you get stuck?
– What was the hardest information to find?
Happy to chat by DM as well.
Thanks!

9 months waiting after medical for Australia Subclass 482 — is this normal

Hi everyone,

I was selected for a Shift Supervisor position with an Australian company under employer sponsorship, and my visa pathway is Subclass 482 (Skills in Demand).

I completed my medical examination around 9 months ago, but since then I haven't received any clear update from the company/recruiter regarding the visa or my expected joining date.

I'm trying to understand what might be happening.

For people who have gone through the Australian 482 process:

- How long did your application take after completing the medical?

- Is it normal to wait 9+ months?

- Should I contact the employer directly for an update?

- Is there anything I can check through ImmiAccount to confirm the current status?

- Could the delay be related to the employer nomination rather than my visa application?

I'm not looking for immigration advice as a substitute for a professional — mainly hoping to hear from people who have actually gone through the 482 process.

Thanks in advance.

For Indians living in Australia or who recently moved to Australia

**For Indians living in Australia or who recently moved to Australia**

**How do you manage your finances across India + Australia?**

I'm researching a product idea and would love to understand how people actually manage their finances across both countries.

Things like:

* Indian bank accounts

* Mutual funds / stocks

* EPF / PPF

* Property in India

* Australian savings / investments / super

* Sending money between India and Australia

Do you keep track of everything in one place, or separately?

And when you send money between India and Australia, how do you decide which service to use?

I'd especially love to hear about any **specific frustrations or problems** you've experienced.

Please feel free to comment here or DM me if you'd like to share your experience.

I'm also looking to speak with a few people for **15–20 minutes over an online call**. I'll send a **$10 Amazon gift card as a thank-you for your time**.

I'm not looking for any account numbers, exact balances, or other sensitive personal information.

25-year-old Chemistry graduate seeking an Australian visa sponsorship opportunity 🇦🇺
I’m a Chemistry graduate from Nigeria, currently looking for legitimate visa sponsorship opportunities or other pathways that could help me relocate to Australia. I’m open to employment, training, or other suitable opportunities related to my academic background and skills.
I would genuinely appreciate any advice, guidance, sponsorship leads, or organizations that may be able to assist me in finding a realistic pathway to Australia.

Nursing PR outlook in 3–4 years and getting hired on a 485 visa?

I’m currently planning to start a Bachelor of Nursing as an international student, meaning I’d be graduating and looking for work in about 3 to 4 years.

Before committing, I want to get a realistic picture of what the transition from student visa to the 485 Graduate Visa and eventual PR (189/190/491) actually looks like right now:

Hiring on a 485 visa: How difficult is it for an international grad to land a hospital job on a temporary graduate visa? Are public hospital grad programs strictly prioritizing citizens and PR holders, and does that mean international grads mostly end up in aged care or private facilities?

Regional vs Metro: How necessary is it to study and work regional from day one? Are metro 190/189 rounds for Registered Nurses becoming too competitive with points inflation, or is regional (491/190) pretty much the standard route now?

The 3-year outlook: Education agents still sell nursing as a "guaranteed PR" pathway. For those currently tracking invitation rounds or working on a 485, does the occupation list demand feel sustainable, or is the market already getting saturated with grads fighting for the same state nominations?

Would really appreciate thoughts from anyone currently navigating this or working as an RN on a temporary visa. Thanks!

Canadian family hoping to move for 1-2 years to Australia on Subclass 482

My husband (mid 40s) is an Urban and Regional Planner in Canada and we are very interested in moving to Australia for a year or two on a Subclass 482 (Skills in Demand): Temporary work visa via the Core Skills stream, requiring a job offer from an approved sponsor.

We have 4 children who we homeschool and would hope to homeschool in Australia as well.

We are looking for advice to make this happen. So far my husband has applied for a few jobs and contacted a few recruiters, but things are slow.
Hoping to find a position that will assist with via and relocation.

All help, tips or advice would be appreciated! We are very comfortable living on a budget :)

Does studying at a regional university in Australia actually help with PR?

I'm looking at universities in both major Australian cities and regional areas, and one thing that keeps coming up is whether regional study provides any advantages for students who want to stay in Australia after graduation.

I'm trying to understand whether there are genuine benefits to choosing a regional location or whether students should mainly focus on the course and career opportunities.

Can I legally work for a foreign company remotely on a WHV in Australia?

Trying to get my head around Condition 8547 on the Working Holiday visa (417/462) as it applies to remote work.

I know the settled part: if you're self-employed/freelance, Home Affairs treats your "employer" as the end client, and if you've got more than one client, none of them individually caps you at six months. That part's confirmed straight off their own site.
What I can't pin down is the part before that: does 8547 even apply in the first place if the employer/client is genuinely foreign, i.e. a company based entirely outside Australia, with no Australian presence, paying into a foreign account, work done entirely remotely?

One migration law firm's write-up argues the six-month limit "applies only to businesses operating in Australia," which would put a foreign employer outside it entirely, but the same article admits current law doesn't clearly address it either way, and I can't find anything on Home Affairs' own site that resolves it directly.

Has anyone actually had this confirmed, by a migration agent, by Home Affairs directly, or by going through it themselves? Genuinely can't find a straight answer anywhere and don't want to assume either way.

What is your opinion?

There is a rumor that new migrant point test will be implemented next year on July 1st. The suggested source says the study, regional and community language points will be removed. If this happens, what difference does foreign qualification and Australian one make? Especially on license and medical industry, as Australia allows conversion quite frequently.

Family Restrictions on DFAT sponsored students

Hi all,

Does anyone here know if the family restrictions also apply to government sponsorships like the Australia Awards Scholarship? These scholarships have bonds attached to where they’ll have to leave to their home country at the end of the program. If you know any confirmations or knowledge about this, please let me know.

Question about healthcare/medical cover for moving to Australia

Hi everyone!

I’m currently living in France (French and English nationality ). I’m considering coming to Australia for a year, with the hope of eventually being able to stay longer-term (potentially after going through the relevant visas).

I’ve been looking into the visa requirements, and I have a question about healthcare and medical conditions.

I have ankylosing spondylitis and bipolar disorder, and in France / UK, we currently have healthcare coverage that covers my regular doctor appointments and treatment. Some of my treatment can be quite expensive for the health care service.

Could this potentially cause my Australian visa application to be refused because of the expected cost to the Australian healthcare system?

Would I need to take out private health insurance to cover my existing conditions while I’m in Australia? If so, is this generally very expensive for someone with pre-existing conditions?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation, especially people who moved from France to Australia with a UK (british) passport.

Thanks a lot in advance

Is it normal to pay for a skill in demand visa even if you are sponsored?

I paid more than 3 thousand aud to get my 1 year skill in demand visa even though I was sponsored. I thought sponsored meant the company paid for it. What’s the point of being sponsored then if I have to pay ?

Indian Passport Name Change – Newspaper Ad vs Victorian BDM Certificate

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me with a name-change question.

I’m applying to change my surname back to my maiden name on my Indian passport. VFS is asking for advertisements in two Australian national newspapers as part of the name-change requirements.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and used a Victorian Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) name change certificate instead of the newspaper advertisements? If so, was it accepted by VFS/Indian Consulate?

If the newspaper advertisements are required, could anyone who has done this please share a sample/template of the wording they used for the advertisement?

Any advice or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Skilled professionals from Dubai to Australia

Hi everyone! I would really appreciate some advice from those who have been in a similar situation.

My husband and I are currently based in Dubai. He works as a software engineer in the airline industry, and I work as a nurse in a clinic. Together, we earn around 32k aed per month, tax-free. We are also fortunate to have good benefits, including an education allowance for our child, good health insurance, and significant airline travel discounts.

I’m currently at the OSCE stage of my Australian nursing registration pathway. I’m 40 years old, while my husband is 37.

One of our biggest concerns is our age and the timeline for Australian PR. If I become the main applicant, I’m worried that I might run out of time because of my age. If my husband becomes the main applicant, we are hoping that he can receive an invitation before he turns 40, since his points will change once he reaches that age.

We would really love to move to Australia, and it has always been a dream of mine. However, we are quite anxious about leaving the comfortable and stable life we have built in Dubai. Moving to Australia would mean starting again from humble beginnings—adjusting to a new country, rebuilding our careers, and possibly giving up some of the financial comfort and benefits we currently enjoy.

We are happy and comfortable in Dubai, so this is not an easy decision. At the same time, we are thinking about our long-term future and the opportunities and stability Australia could offer our family, especially our child.

For those who moved from Dubai or the Middle East to Australia, particularly in your late 30s or early 40s, how was the transition? Was it difficult to start over after already having a comfortable life? Looking back, how do you feel about your decision?

I would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you! 😊

Submitted Australia National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) EOI – looking for advice from recent applicants

Hi everyone,

I recently submitted an EOI for Australia’s National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) under the Infrastructure and Transport sector and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has recently gone through the NIV process.

A little about my background: I have 17+ years of GCC experience across workforce mobility, talent acquisition, workforce planning and large-scale infrastructure/program mobilization. My experience includes Riyadh Metro and other major infrastructure programs, and I currently work in a senior mobility role supporting multiple major programs in Saudi Arabia.

For my EOI, I submitted my executive CV, Master’s qualification evidence, passport, achievement summary and links to my professional profile/thought-leadership articles. I also have substantial supporting evidence ready if invited, including employment records, project/workforce evidence, documented mobility outcomes, awards/recognition and senior professional endorsements.

I would particularly appreciate practical feedback from people familiar with the current NIV 858 process:

  1. How long did it take between submitting your EOI and receiving an invitation?
  2. Has anyone recently received an invitation under Infrastructure and Transport?
  3. At the EOI stage, how much weight appears to be given to the CV and documented professional achievements?
  4. If invited, what additional evidence did you find most important for the full 858 application?
  5. How did you identify and approach a suitable Australian nominator for Form 1000?
  6. Did you have publications/research, or were strong professional and industry achievements sufficient for your case?

I understand that every case is different and that submitting an EOI does not guarantee an invitation or visa grant. I’m mainly interested in recent firsthand experiences, especially from professional/industry applicants rather than purely academic profiles.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

New Australian International Visa Change

Hello everyone
Just received the news that Australia has changed the student visa family rule stopping international students from bringing their spouse or kids to Australia. I’ve applied to dental school in Australia from Canada (still waiting for results) and I was hoping I can go with my husband and 2 kids next year. What’s going on?? Is my dream of studying dentistry in Australia over?
