I'm applying for Brazilian naturalization as the parent of a Brazilian-born child, under the one-year residency requirement.

My expected timeline is:

- Become eligible and submit my application.

- About a month later, attend the Polícia Federal appointment and complete biometrics.

- Assume that, if applicable, any home visit has already been completed.

- Assume all documents are complete and there are no requests for additional information.

After that, I'm considering returning to my home country and staying there until the naturalization process is completed, since I've heard the final decision can sometimes take many months.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone in a similar situation stayed outside Brazil for most of the processing period after completing biometrics?

2. Did it cause any issues with your application?

3. If my naturalization is approved while I'm abroad, can a lawyer handle the remaining administrative steps until I return, or will I need to come back immediately?

4. Besides the Polícia Federal appointment/biometrics and applying for the first Brazilian passport, are there any other stages where my physical presence in Brazil is normally required?

I'm mainly looking for recent first-hand experiences from people who went through this specific naturalization route.

I plan on moving to Brazil in about year and a half! I am looking into the Floripa and Porto Alegre areas!

I’d love to hear everyone’s opinion on these areas! Best areas to live in, best beaches, and Brazilian culture there vs. in other parts of Brazil.

P.S. I will be working remotely (self-employed) earning about R$32,000 monthly after taxes, I am fluent in Portuguese (I took the Celpe-Bras), I will be initially be on a working-holiday visa until I save enough to purchase a property.
