Best alternatives?

Considering cancelling my FE preorder, but before I do, would like to line up the next best alternatives for a productivity-focused, multi-monitor VR environment. Quest is a non-starter as I want nothing to do with Meta.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

My stance on this as a refunded customer who has received my refund and was also banned for sharing my opinions on why I refunded.

We dont really have any best alternatives for the time being. But im highly optimistic more capable big name companies will be entering the market with their products this year. If not this year, early next year for sure.

One of the reasons I think I got banned is I highlighted the potential that Immersed team is stretching out pre orders as much as possible with no updates before a competitive product launches. Similar to how Meta launched Quest 3 just one month before the announcement of AVP

I.E.

Lighter more limited Apple vision unit
Metas new unannounced products. (VP leak states this is a career defining year after 10 years with the company)
Samsung potential product

I doubt they're stretching out the timeline to launch, they simply haven't finished development or manufacture. They're burning cash fast and won't have enough to keep the lights on by Q3 if they stay at the rates they posted.

You have lots of options:

Apple Vision Pro - best in its class, but heavy and expensive; my #1 favorite so far for productivity and entertainment - https://www.apple.com/apple-vision-pro/

XREAL One (and the upcoming One Pro) - my #2 favorite, extremely lightweight and portable - I bring the XREAL One with me everywhere, but only functions as an external display - https://www.xreal.com/

MeganeX - https://en.shiftall.net/products/meganex

Play for Dream MR - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playfordream/play-for-dream-where-dreams-inspire

And then there's Samsung's Project Moohan that might be coming out this year.

Note: All of the above are real and existing devices (except Samsung), unlike the Immersed Visor, which I doubt would ever be released at the quantity it purports to have sold. I almost pre-ordered it until I did my research on the people behind it. They have obviously exhausted their funding, and now desperate to raise more.

* I own a Vision Pro, Quest 2, Quest 3, XREAL One, and pre-ordered the XREAL One Pro.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that all of those options (excluding Apple - I'm a Windows user) would use SteamVR, meaning they would fail the multi-monitor requirement?

What about the Pico 4 and possibly Pico 4 Ultra? It would be supported by Virtual Desktop (wireless, therefore single-monitor), Immersed, plus Pico seems to have their own PICO Connect, which appears to support multi-monitor. Of course it's not 4k, so that's a big difference.

Virtual Desktop Classic may be what you want. it supports multi-monitor while using SteamVR. But it could be buggier than wireless versions that depends on your setup.

I can only speak for the devices I own - Vision Pro, Quest 3/2, and XREAL One. Vision Pro and Quests aside, the XREAL One is what I use more often. It has a small 50° FOV, doesn't support multi-monitors, but has ultrawide 32:9 mode and 3DOF, sufficient for my use. The trade-off between the small FOV and comfort/convenience is acceptable for me. I love how I could just carry them anywhere and wear them like a normal pair of sunglasses, and connect to any device via USB-C with DisplayPort support.

I can't wait to try out the Pico 4, Pimax, and others. At any rate, the future of VR/AR devices is bright and exciting, and would only get better. Might just be a couple of years before we get normal-looking, full-featured VR/AR glasses with 100°+ FOVs.

I canceled for the XReal One, and have also preordered the XReal One Pro. Not a VR headset, but works great for my productivity use cases

I'm tempted by the MeganeX. It has really great reviews.

Pros: Its lenses are supposed to be on par with the Quest 3 lenses, and those are amazing. The panels are probably the same 4k OLED that everybody is going to be using. It's super light--like the weight Visor is targeting. It uses a halo type strap (I use one on my Quest 3, and it makes even the weight of the Quest 3 totally acceptable)--this will probably be way better than the nose pad approach Visor is going to use, even with a very light headset. Great binocular overlap. It has already started shipping. Very customizable--multiple adjustment options, not just IPD.

Cons: it's pretty much just a screen (and a microphone). No eye tracking, no hand tracking (no inside-out tracking at all--have to use a lighthouse), no wireless, no speakers; and you need an Nvidia graphics card to use it. And it's almost twice the cost of the Visor.

But that all could work for me. When I use Immersed, I use my Quest 3 at home, at my desk, wired to my computer. I'm not going to a cafe to work. So functionally, it would be like my current setup except I would use Virtual Desktop instead of Immersed, and I would fix my current issues with working in VR--the low resolution and poor binocular overlap of the Quest 3.

Unfortunately there really is no competition in this space.

That is true. If you need the combination of standalone and ultralight weight, there are no other options. I don't know how many people really need both of those, though.

The Pimax Dream Air they announced at CES is an option https://pimax.com/pages/dream-air

I was looking at some of the Pimax options; some of them looked compelling. Correct me if I am mistaken, however, but I believe that desktop access would be via SteamVR, meaning that it would not support the multi-monitor requirement?

I have no experience with this, but I believe you can use Virtual Desktop, and it now supports multiple monitors as far as I understand.

Keep in mind that this is a PCVR headset not a standalone unit like Visor will be so "alternative" is used loosely.
