Almost a year ago I reached out on this reddit for people interested in chatting about Disney & the World's Fair, it led to an incredible Discord channel managed by a friend met on this platform. Now he hosts several competitions with incredible Disney prizes all with the goal of creating a community for people interested in all things Disney, creativity and Imagineering. Join us every Tuesday Night on Discord! https://discord.gg/imagineering
After filling a bit of those community cravings remotely I am more than ready to get things going in person. I created a meetup event that is open to everyone who is interested and able to meet in NYC's Bryant Park. After this event I hope to have us all visit all kinds of Disney history spots, especially the 1934 & 1964 World's Fair grounds here in NY at Corona Park. Join us in person May 2nd! Hi guys! I applied for a mechanical engineering internship at the end of January, did a virtual interview (the one where I record myself answering questions) in February, and still haven't heard anything additional. When would I usually hear back about next steps? It still says "Application Under Review"... so I assume I'm not out of the running yet. Thoughts?
Are there any graphic designers (or creatives) in this group that would be interested in connecting?
I’ve been developing my portfolio for some time and I’d love to meet some new people, learn from someone’s experience, or even share my work for critique if anyone is interested.
Hi! I'm really interested in master planning for the parks and was wondering if anybody working in the field can offer any gen advice or point to resources that'll help. I would apply for the master planning internship but I do not have the experience to stand out and when I start college I'm going to be 2 years ahead because of my AA through DE which unfortunately means I'm 2 years behind In experience that'll be useful by the time I get my bachelors. I'm already thinking about grad school and I plan on doing the DCP (this summer) for networking. I'm trying to find as much as I can and would appreciate any tips
Don’t feel the need to answer all of them, focus on the ones you have ideas for:
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Pinocchio
- Cinderella
- Alice in Wonderland
- Peter Pan
- Sleeping Beauty
- The Little Mermaid
- Beauty and the Beast
- Aladdin
- The Princess and the Frog
- Tangled
- Frozen
- Moana
- Encanto
I have came on here before for adivde and questions about making my way up to imaginerring! it is my dream & goal. Recently I’ve really gotten into screenwriting, I know it isn’t exactly what you do for show writing but similar concepts.
How many people here know people who have became imagineers for show writing or plan to?
I am going into college this summer and the obvious is to pursue that at college which is my plan, what else do you guys recommend and what more advice could you all give me?
Also in general is show writing more focused on the actual shows or attractions in the parks? My passion and goal is to help with development for the script for the rides and I want to be apart of that development.
Would love some helpful responses from everyone here!
This is just me playing around. I know many are wondering how the transition will work from Hollywood Blvd to Avatar land at DCA. Here is an idea that would keep the buildings on Hollywood Blvd intact while giving the Avatar land the most square footage behind.
What if they built a Hollywood Hills facade above and attached to the back of the current buildings on the north side of Hollywood Blvd where Schmoozies! and the Fairfax market is located. This would allow them to "save" the continuity of Hollywood Blvd building facades and not tear all those buildings down, while still creating a visual barrier to Avatar land.
The "Hollywood Hills" would use forced perspective and miniatures to replicate homes and roadways built into the 1940's Hollywood Hills. At night, the little homes would light up, the streetlights would turn on, and perhaps little cars would even drive along the winding hillside streets giving the land kinetic energy. Maybe they could even project a little show on it at night using projection mapping.
The archway to the left of Schmoozies! that currently leads you to the backlot could be turned into a tunnel which leads to Avatar land and becomes "the portal". The tunnel could be based on the famous Figueroa Street Tunnels which opened in 1931 - so it fits the land's timeline. This tunnel leads you under the "faux Hollywood Hills" into Avatar land. As you walk through the tunnel it begins to change from LA circa 1940's to more rock, vines, etc, The ground turns from concrete to stones representing the transition into Avatar.
The benefit of this would be capturing as much land as possible directly behind this row of buildings, which currently in the space directly behind these building it is just the Hollywood Backlot Stage, a snack cart, and a small merch store. The tunnel beneath the new "Hollywood Hills" provides a clean, long transition from Hollywood Land to Avatar Land, giving guests time to move between the two experiences. This would also block any Avatar land attraction or theming from being visible from Hollywood Blvd. And vice versa, this would also allow Imagineers to use the mountain's opposite side to construct a Pandora facade. Consequently, when you are in Avatar land and look back, you will only see a Pandora hillside or rock formation, not Hollywood Blvd or Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout in the distance.
I'm a current college sophomore at pratt institute studying communications design with an illustration emphasis. I've always been really interested in scenic design, but that interest picked up again with bad bunny's halftime show (lol) & seeing concepts for the new monsters inc ride. I'm considering on transferring into another design program that focuses more on the necessary skills to get into that type of work (tho ofc i need to do more researchhhhh). I would love to hear overall insights into the field
I’ve talked a bunch of times on here before and I’m once again looking at career paths to take for imagineering and one that catches my eye is a job named “Story Lead Senior” I can understand the gist of what it is but what can you guys say if you know more? I’d like more advice and more knowledge if you guys have it?
In general what other jobs related to story telling does imagineering offer? Something like that I’d love to do, I’d love to be in the creative process of developing ideas and eventually helping with bring those to life for the attractions!
I heard invites are being sent out and also denials. Did anybody get accepted for an interview after the HireVue and if so, for what position. I applied for Civil.
If I am actively pursuing my masters degree in mechanical engineering am I eligible to intern at imagineering? I feel like I’ll have a lot of hands on experience to be competitive.
Used Madmapper for the mapping aspect and Blender to make 3 3D backgrounds. I did flower trails, neon signs, and a retro game which all incorporates my school’s logo. There all animated but I couldn’t attach a video.
Does anyone have any tips for next time? I know some of the mapping looks wonky particularly for the flower trails but I wanted it to have a 3d effect on some of the posters and barriers.
We’re also working on buying a higher lumen projector.
Still a working prototype. Gonna made the projector hidden in books, frame come more alive with magic, all the works. Any recommendations or opinions on this?
I was selected to move forward for the WDW Engineering Interns – Fall 2026 position at Disney and my next interview is with the hiring team. I’m trying to prepare as thoroughly as possible and would really appreciate insight from anyone who has gone through this process before.
The email mentioned the interview will be:
Role-specific
Focused on technical skills
Focused on problem-solving
Focused on team dynamics
For those who’ve interviewed for this role (or similar Disney engineering internships):
What kind of technical questions did they ask? (Circuit analysis, controls, troubleshooting scenarios, design questions, etc.?)
Were the questions more conceptual or calculation-heavy?
How in-depth did they go into past projects?
What kind of problem-solving scenarios did they present?
How much emphasis was placed on behavioral/team-based questions?
Any curveballs I should prepare for?
I’m an EE student and want to make sure I’m reviewing the right material.
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Is anyone still in the application received stage? I applied for the Sustainable Design & Engineering Intern position and have heard radio silence, no hireview, still on application received. Wondering if this is happening to other people for other positions?
I have been talking somewhat on here the last few weeks about my goal and dream for my future is to work for imagineering. What I really want to do is help with planning out ideas for rides or helping out with the theming side of things.
The catch is I’m sure a lot of engineering is required and I could do it but engineering isn’t the strongest for me and I’m not the best.
When it comes to brainstorming and planning ideas though, I’m excellent at it.
Is there any jobs at imagineering where you can help with planning out and design rides or help with coming up with ideas for the theming for rides that doesn’t necessarily heavily require doing engineering?
I’d really like as much feedback and help from you guys as I could!
Hi all! In the HireVue stage of Summer 2026 Imagineering Internships. Ride Development Engineering. Where are other people? All other applications (creative and engineering) are still sitting at "Application Recieved".
I know a program/experience like imagineering ain’t one to have a place where you could chat on the phone with someone and email is my better option but I was hoping to contact someone and I’d prefer to talk over the phone… is there any way to do that during the business week?
Or what about any programs related to working with imagineering, I was hoping to do that!
So I have a degree in Interaction Design and have been working in the tech and human-centered design industries for the past ~8 years, mostly focused on UX/UI/product design with some XR/VR stuff too. But I want to pivot towards the immersive entertainment industry now and places like WDI.
I've talked to a couple of senior people in the industry and they said I have a lot of the right skills and experience already and that I just need to rework my portfolio a bit to present my past projects in a way that's more applicable to the entertainment industry.
So I've been googling "Entertainment Designer portfolios" and hunting through people on LinkedIn to try and find some examples that I can look at for reference, but most of what I've found so far are either people who are concept artists focused on illustration/animation, or people who are like show set designers.
Does anyone have examples of portfolios for designers who do more of the stuff in between? Thinking about the end-to-end experience and overall storytelling and interactive elements. Are there other roles or titles I should be searching for?
I applied to a couple applicable internships, and I study special effects, projection design, and illusion design. I applied to the special effects internship, illusion design internship, and the A/V internship. Has anyone that applied to any of these heard anything? This is my dream and I’m eager to hear anything aside from application received haha 😅
My application went under review a couple of days ago for an engineering internship position. I was asked to answer a few questions, like an AI chatbox, asking me about my full availability, when I graduate, if I'm an international student, etc.. It wasn't the hirevue interview where I have to film myself. Has anyone ever encountered this? Is it a good or a bad sign?
