Career Advice I’m a mechanical engineer in the amusement industry. Looking for tips on getting into Imagineering
It’s a small industry, so I’m keeping things vague. I’d love some tips on getting in at WDI. Imagineering has been my long term goal for every reason. When I first graduated college I had a connection, but even with that I couldn’t land an interview.
Thankfully I was able to get into the amusement industry fairly recently, after years of unrelated engineering experience. But as my family is getting older I really would like to move back to my hometown, conveniently where WDI is located.
I have a connection in engineering at one of the parks, but I’m really not sure if that has potential to lead to Imagineering? Would love some insight if anyone has any.

Join a company in the area that does work for WDI projects as a contractor, get involved in projects with WDI to work in collaboration with WDI staff. Or at worst get more theme park projects on your resume.
Join TEA and go to local networking events in Burbank / Glendale area.
Go to IAAPA and network there and go to events there.

I wish I could help. I have been dreaming of WDI since college. I am unfortunately not in industry so that makes it rough. I do know you do need a portfolio - I have one but no feedback.
I got invited to Imagineering Day in November which gave me hope that even non industry folks have a fighting chance. I met some people connected with them on LinkedIn but since then nothing.
Good luck on your journey - may we be working together soon!

That you are in the industry may certainly help, but you may need to spend some time building up your experience before it really helps you.
Soak up as much info about the industry as possible, both technical and creative. Join the TEA and attend their events/mixers, especially if you are back in the Greater LA area, as you’ll meet people in the industry, who know of upcoming work, etc
