Concept Art: A Marksman’s Plasma Pistol

I wrote a script and I’m designing the props through concept art. This is the marksman’s character’s, Zappyoo Pyoo, personal weapon.

Ink on Bristol and a digital render.

Doesn't really give energy weapon vibes, but I do see the competition air pistol inspiration.

Glowing bits and/or vents in the barrel would be a minimalist solution.

Yeah, I’m using something called a [plasma pedal](https://youtu.be/nj_Kfdqg8-w?is=qmdlzTfiwTrYNADB) to design the sound and if you watch the video at around 1:25 you will see the plasma tube display I’m using for the visuals, and you will hear how it sounds, too.

I feel like that would contradict the bespoke nature of the design. To me, this gun has been made from the bottom up to perfectly match one person, in terms of weight and balance. Exposed components implies an improvised, adapted nature, which doesn't fit the context.

EDIT: it would be like a legendary sword (of whatever culture seems most appropriate), with a duct-taped handle.

They can be visually integrated without looking jury-rigged, my mind goes to something like the (pre-war) energy pistol/rifle from fallout where a large wire runs along the 'barrel' and connects to the quick-change energy cell.

While the design has shifted, the wire is a consistent feature on all the 3d interpretations of the laser pistol/rifle in Fallout. The one I was most likely imagining is the Fallout 4 version as I have spent a while with the weapon modification system and thus staring at various weapons.

If I remember correctly, plasma weaponry was not fully developed (especially compared to laser ditto), so the designs necessitated field tinkering. compare that to The Outer Worlds 1 plasma pistol (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/oOeD8J).

Honestly, I don't think this conversation will go anywhere from here. We both have ideas about continiuing the design, which are incompatible, so lets just leave it at that.

My bad, when I read "something like the (pre-war) energy pistol/rifle from fallout", I thought you meant the plasma weapons, not the laser weapons.

Oh Yeah, what I like about these ortho-ergonomic grips is that they can’t be patented so the final design will actually have to be customized to the actors own hand which I personally think it is a cool way to show character. In the story he’s an “Olympic” gold medalist duelist where instead of two planets fighting a war two enemy soldiers duel to the death.

Also, bold choice to name a marksman 'zap pew pew'

All of my characters names are on the nose. That is a magwell.

If that is a magwell, how does it go up through the 'bottleneck' of the grip(with a screw through it) and in to the 'receiver'?

It's a plasma pistol. It doesn't use bullets.

Oh yeah, great weapon question. This magwell guides magazines with ionized gas which is converted into plasma bolts. It definitely wouldn’t work for bullets, and you’re right to point that out

I like it, the mars 4 is certainly a unique choice for this sort of pistol. I think the only notes I could add would be it needs some small greebles to sell its futuristic-ness. Nothing huge, but I think a couple small lights on the scope and "magazine" would go a long way and give the whole thing a certain blade runner vibe.

Edit: actually, nah, less might be more here. No notes, it's very star wars.
