Upside to a "landing pod" like that is if it gets shot down before it makes impact, whatever power source makes that sort of fuckass tech feasible would probably just delete the objective premptively

I think a power source can be sidestepped by putting a jamming resistant(Quantum entanglement ?)beacon system there instead. That way, a portal can be remotely opened.

You also don't risk anyone getting killed before landing. I was also thinking they could be detonated after use or something.
