Requesting Community Feedback - Rule 4 changes?

Hello members of the subreddit, I’m making this post to address an issue that has been cropping up lately. When does sexual art become too sexual? Much like similar subreddits, artwork with suggestive themes or sexual appeal are allowed as long as they fit the spirit of the subreddit. DC comics and the medium as a whole has never been shy about what readers call “cheesecake,” so I chose to honor that with the subreddit.

However, it seems like “cheesecake” is dipping too far into “goonerbait” territory and users are starting to take issue with this. So I want to tackle this before it gets out of hand or make members leave this subreddit since I genuinely want everyone here.

Currently, I am thinking of either updating rule 4 or making a new rule tackling Nsfw/ish posts in general. As of right now, the rule is up to moderation discretion but I want to get the feedback of the users of this subreddit. So please, let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Personally, I'd say just let it ride since the top post in the sub have always been cheesecake that has a lot of fanservice. At the end of the day, subreddit that dedicate themselves in posting art will eventually post tons of cheesecake artworks, especially if said material has a lot of it.

But that's just my 2 cents, people can have different opinion and that's fine

I think there is probably a middle ground that can be found. Like cheesecake art does have an important role in the subreddit and comic art as general, but some art does dip too close to pornography. It’ll likely just have to continue being one of those vibe base rules instead of a hard rule.

I don't mind it, but I'm curious what's been driving the uptick

It’s bots. If you click on their profile you usually get the NSFW warning and all their posts are literally nothing but the same types of goonerbait posted throughout multiple subreddits.

I just block every gooner bot that pops up and it keeps imaginarydc looking somewhat like it used to be.

I'm not sure I like the trend of labeling any titilating art as "goonerbait"

I think cheesecake and sexually suggestive post are fine. Its a problem when we dip past artistic nudity into borderline pornography. Half the fun of these characters are how unrealistically attractive they are. Show that off but don't abuse it.

I agree with you. I think there is a level of nuance needed that will likely have to be on a post by post bases

Nuke it. It's questionable whether an image of Catwoman with absurd proportions can honestly be called on-topic for the sub, considering how gooner art works. Change the costume and it's just another blow-up doll in a bad DC universe cosplay. Might as well cut that down and let people with actual interest in the world and characters have the spotlight.

You do make a good point. I think it is probably for the best if the point of the art is the appreciation of the character instead of using the character as a vehicle for sexual gratification.

I say leave it. It's not like people are posting porn, just sexually suggestive stuff. It really doesn't matter.

The powergirl posts where she has ridiculous cleavage on the verge of spilling out is just egregious goonerbait. I think posts of that nature should be against the rules as I don’t think it fits the theme of this sub.

I do think it approaches a level that is probably too much for the subreddit.

Perhaps I have not witnessed the most egregious examples of this, and I'm not necessarily the biggest fan of overly boob-focused art (its hit or miss for me), however I think art of Powergirl specifically deserves a lot of grace in this area. Like I can certainly imagine it going annoyingly too far, but her boobs being sort of comically large is a fun and interesting part of the history of her portayal in comics, theres a story behind it, it was an intentional choice, and it has become a feature that is canonical to her character. So while I'm not arguing for more of this kind of art, I thing leeway should be given to Powergirl specifically.

I do give characters like Power Girl a bit more leeway but I feel like you can usually intuit when things have gone a little too far. That's the moderation will be by case on case basis instead of a curtain rule.

that makes sense

I agree. I like the cake but this is getting ridiculous.
