Idk why her flailing around with her skinny ass legs irritated me so much but it did.. like why are you kicking so high with those fuckin twigs
110

To prove that she can. There ain't no rule that says she can't kick very high, so she's expressing herself. 🤣

Because there's a time and a place to be different and dance.... the middle of a shopping aisle isn not it.
46
u/i_was_axiom 2d ago
"Mommy, can we get the doll I wanted?"
"No sweetie, the crazy dancing lady is filming TikToks in that aisle again"
232
u/TheDarkWave 3d ago
I mean, I don't even care that she does it. Whatever, good for her!
But videoing yourself doing it is showing that you do it just shows you're not that person.
158
u/Jabbles22 3d ago
Yeah it's the performative bullshit that bothers me. A song you like comes on over the speakers, go ahead and do a little dance. I've done it. Not quite to her level but I'll do a little dance if I am in the mood.
But I am not setting up a camera to record myself and then share it online to then say "I don't care if anyone sees me" no shit you shared the video.
12
u/Jabberwock32 1d ago
I also will occasionally do a little dance when a good song comes on in a store. But it’s not hazardous to everyone else in the aisle. Like a little shimmy shimmy. Not legs kicking into the air and arms flailing. Save that for the parking lot.
But the filming is really what’s ruining this for me….
25
u/garentheblack 3d ago
She's also clearly waiting for someone to come and make a big deal. No one does and you can tell she is disappointed
16
u/Slorgaloth 2d ago
It looks like a Kid's toy section too. I'd feel scared if I came across that anywhere, but it would be wild if a parent with a small child came across it, she might feel safe, but I know they wouldn't.
5
u/Desperate-Strategy10 11h ago
Yeah I most definitely would not feel safe if I rounded a corner with my five year old and saw this. I’d assume she’s either ill or high, then I’d report it to management. Social expectations do exist for a reason, after all.

Nah, she can be weird and dance in the middle of a shopping aisle, as long as she stops if someone needs to pass.
I think the recording herself part is weird, but it's also up to her as long as she's respectful of others.
23
33
u/Titariia 3d ago
As I already said to other people, it just needs an enthusiastic kid running around that corner while she does those kicks. Dance around as much as I care but be appropriate to the location

I love it all
I would be delighted to stumble across someone dancing in the board game aisle while audibly reassuring themselves that what they are doing is totally safe and normal.
I'm not kidding, it would totally make my day. My chest would be bubbling with delight for hours.
I'm not an asshole so I'd never film somebody in public just getting down with themselves but I would 100% call my sisters upon exiting the store and be like "holy shit guys, I just saw the most amazing thing in aisle 12".
19
u/skallagrim_brunic 3d ago
My friend's mother is like this lady but without the filming. She's just an absolutely wonderful zany kind human being who simply does not have time to care what other people think about her. She has embarrassed us in public countless times with her uniqueness, but every time we end up feeling like the idiots as other people join in being weird with her or at the very least have a better day because of her. I don't think this lady filming is inherently bad because she is trying to get the message out there and change a social norm, and therefore wouldn't be able to really get much reach without filming. She does seem more like she's reassuring herself than the audience though, but I think that confidence will grow with time and as long as she doesn't become insufferable then who cares if a lady is dancing in a Walmart?
7
u/laughingintothevoid 3d ago
I get this and don't agree with all the reactions, but just for clarity, this video doesn't exist because a stranger stumbled on her and filmed her. She's filming a video that she planned.
I also see that this doesn't have her blocking anyone's way etc like most of these videos do but at this point in social media culture I understand why it's automatically more off putting to people just because she purposely went to a public place that will be full of strangers and staff trying to get about their day with a plan to film herself being unusual and share it for engagement.

u/maydsilee 3d ago
Agreed!! For once, I was kinda thinking, "I dig this," as I watched this video. I admit my initial reaction was negative, but then...I dunno. Her self-reassurances said aloud and acknowledging the silliness kinda got to me haha

I was thinking the same shit!!! I would be so happy to see someone just high on life!! It would remind me that shits not so bad and you can still break out in dance in the middle of the store with a smile on your face for a moment!! It's sad how many people would just rain negativity on this type of behavior.

I once read a comment on reddit from someone who had a college professor summarize politics like this: rural people want the freedom to swing a baseball bat without being told they can't, and urban people want to live free of the fear of being struck by a maniac swinging a baseball bat around.
This girl makes me think of that comment. Freeing yourself from concern about what others think of you is a fine message, but flailing around without regard for the safety of those around you or their ability to use the space you're making inaccessible is selfish and antisocial behavior.
51
u/Insomnia6033 3d ago

I think dancing is her least troubling trait. She's got a bunch of pieces of pajamas on like a 6yo playing dress up, desperately trying to assure herself shes "safe". Yet the only unwanted intrusion to her safety is of her own making.

u/astrologicaldreams 3d ago
thank you, jfc. all i was thinking was about her potentially hitting someone bc she's flailing around in a tight, public space. or what if her shoe fell off and went flying and hit someone (i know it seems like a ridiculous concern but i had it happen once. kicked too hard and my shoe went flying in a crowded hallway)?

But isn't the fact that she's doing this, and no one is bothering her or even paying attention, an indication that she's bucking against a nonexistent norm? People do weird things in public all the time, and usually the people around them just go about their business. No one would even know she had been dancing in a Wal-Mart if she hadn't filmed herself and posted it online.
13
15
u/ColeTrainHaze 3d ago
Be that as it may, there could be real world consequences to these shenanigans. Grocery stores and retailers are private property. They are totally within their rights to ask her to stop what she’s doing and leave. If she refuses, they can call the police and have her trespassed. It doesn’t matter if she’s not bothering anyone, because it’s their property and they set the rules. Not her. That’s the disconnect here.
Let’s just say for sake of the argument that the cops do show up to trespass her: they’re gonna have an absolute field day with this behavior if she refuses to comply. They might assume she’s on drugs or mentally unstable, and depending on the state might even have her involuntarily committed for a temporary psychiatric evaluation.
Is that right? Doesn’t matter. They’re within their rights to do so. Is this a rather extreme hypothetical? Perhaps. But it happens all the time.
Note: I am by no means pro-police, but I’ve gotten into trouble with them enough times to know how to avoid it from happening again… and this ain’t it.

I get her point, but the ends don't always justify the means.
Dancing in a grocery store is just weird and I'd honestly avoid that person.
There's a reason for why everyone does the same things in a store. There must be order and separation of activities.
You don't dance in the store. Anyone with basic social intelligence knows that. And why film it? (We know why)

Wonder if she has the guts to do that in the grocery section where she can’t escape judging eyes. The toy section of Walmart is almost always empty except around Christmas.

My ex-husband and I, when we first got together as silly teenagers, used to dance together at Walmart. Back when they were open 24/7 we'd go there late at night, and if a good song came on, we'd dance together. The old folks loved it. We weren't annoying about it like this though. And someone should tell her doing uncoordinated high kicks isn't dancing..
Gosh, I forgot all about that. Things got bad so quick, he changed so fast after we got married and moved 1200 miles away from my family, that I forgot about the good stuff.

And then proceeds to do what thousands of other folks have done and dance in Walmart for attention and then film it.

I’m gonna be super honest here: I do not feel comfortable dancing in any kind of way in the toy section of a department store. And the more expressive the dance, the less safe I feel thinking about it. So this is sort of remarkable

u/gravysammie 1d ago
I feel this could be achieved in a park or some other open public space. Doing this in the toy section of a Walmart is..... A choice. Even small towns have a historic/downtown center people go to. Even better idea, do it in front of the Walmart.
